Dyches, son of Kent Dyches and Doris Brunson.both of Mt. Pleasant recently participated in Operation Desert Fox. Dyches is a 1991 graduate of North Sanpete High School. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, currently deployed to the Mediterranean Sea Arabian Gulf. During the operation, U.S. forces launched attacks on military installations in Iraq. Attacks were made after Iraqi Saddam President Husseins refused to allow United Nation teams to inspect Iraqi installations for weapons of mass destruction. President Hussein constantly denied inspectors access to facilities which could house or manufacture such weapons in Iraq. Carriers, like USS Enterprise, home ported in Norfolk, VA, are forward deployed around the world to maintain a U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-b- e aggressors and, if deterrence fails, offer the most versatile and powerful available, weapons including Tomahawk cruise missiles and tactical aircraft. NHS donates to Honduras MT. PLEASANT Wasatch Academy Chapter of National Honor Society (NHS) donated S555 to assist hurricane victims Honduras. Chapter President, o( Justin Char, San Francisco, CA, presented a check to Assistant Headmaster, Lindsey Gilbert, at a recent assembly. The Gilbert family lived and worked in Honduras and will send the money to the Mennonite Central Committee to disperse directly to the victims of Hurricane Mitch. The American dollar is substantially of greater value in third world countries, the $555 raised represents a significant contribution to the people of Honduras. Each year, NHS members hold a variety of fund raising activities as part of a community service. They contribute the money raise to either the community for a specific cause including special projects and scholarships. Or the money goes to charitable organizations such as the Association of Retarded Citizens, Sanpete County Food Bank, Salt Lake City Soup Kitchen, and Sub for Santa. Each member was deeply touched by the devastation they saw in film clips of Honduras and by letters they read about the needs of the people. Wasatch accepts CASE VII award MT PLEASAN- T- Wasatch Academy recently announced that the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VII has presented the school's development department with an award of Distinction for Most Improved Annual Giving. CASE District VII has a record of 365 entries to which there were 24 Awards of Excellence and 64 Awards of Distinction given. The awards are given to colleges, universities and independent high schools. Wasatch Academy competed with universities and colleges from all over the Western United States. This award is an accomplishment for the Department of Development at Wasatch Academy and was recognized at the CASE District VII in San Francisco. The Arts in Education (AIE) office of the Utah Arts Council partnership with the State Office of Education, has nine different applications for schools and nonprofit organizations. Grants range from a few hundred dollars to $10,000 and include such categories as artist in residence, professional development for educators and arts education projects for communities, schools, and underserved audiences. Funds from the AIE grants provide direct, hands on art experiences, opportunities for citizens to work with artists and assistance in implementing arts education plans in schools. Funds may not be used for general operating support. PUBLIC NOTICE The Mayor of Moroni City and City Council are concerned vehicles and horses on city with citizens riding parks, city ball diamonds and other public properties causing severe damage. Due to the past damage, the Mayor and City Council are now offering a $500 reward for the ARREST AND CONVICTION of anyone doing damage to city properties. and snowmobiles on the city's parks are breaking sprinkler heads and tearing down the turf.
