Show Churches send Christmas messages At this wondrous time of the year, our hearts turn again with gratitude to our Heavenly Father for the marvelous blessings he has showered upon us. We are grateful for Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice and the many blessings that came to us because of the atonement. This beautiful spirit felt at Christmas time is one we should try to emulate all year round. We express our appreciation for the gifts of love, compassion, light and life you members of our community show and do for each other. May the spirit of the Lord attend you and your loved ones during this holiday season and throughout the coming year. George W. Johansen Earl D. Varsity A few days before Christmas the young daughter of a friend of mine was excitedly picking up all the wrapped gifts under the Christmas tree. She would shake each present and examine the size and shape. Through her vigorous shaking a brightly colored bow fell off one of the gifts. She picked the bow up and put it up on her head and said. "Look at me, I am a present! Each one of us as a child of God could say that. We are to offer ourselves to God freely. We can all present ourselves to the Lord as a living sacrifice as Romans 12:1 tells us. Those who truly surrender their all to the Lord can say with Paul in Philippians 1:20, "Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or death." Christmas is the time when we commemorate Gods greatest gift to us. his son Jesus Christ. As we contemplate the love that prompted such giving, may our response be one of yielding our lives to him for his glory. Let us echo the words of the daughter of my friend and "Look at me. Father! 1 myself am a present! May the peace and joy of Christmas be yours throughout the year. Merry Christmas! Love Pastor Dave Boge, First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant Roosevelt Judge writes novel against drunk driving It also fell his lot to notify SPRINGV1LL- E- Circuit court judge, Clair Poulson, Roosurvivors of the death of loved sevelt, got a call one day from a reporter with the Salt Lake Tribune who wanted to know why the judge had given such a light sentence to a certain drunk driver. The reporter went on to explain that after an early release from jail, the man in question had resumed his drinking and driving, and had just killed three innocent people. The reporter wanted to know if the judge felt at least partially responsible. "As a judge I see a lot of human tragedy," Judge Poulson explains, "but taking that phone call was one of the most humbling and sobering experiences of my life." "I've always been tough on drunk drivers, but I began to wonder if I could do more. I decided to write a novel, hoping to change some attitudes towards drinking, especially among young " people. His new novel, "Point of Impact," is now available in bookstores. It is the story of teenagers in a smail Utah town, and the impact of drinking on their lives. His desire in writing the book is to draw attention to problems of underage drinking, drunk driving, and alcoholism. And in doing so, he hopes that others will come to realize that this is something all must deal with if lives are to be saved. "If some dont ever drink as a result of this book, or if others find the strength to quit, my efforts in writing this book will be justified," he said. As a peace officer and judge, he has investigated many accidents and handled many court cases involving drunk drivers. Some were tragic, involving youth and little children as ones. He has seen the grief and accompanying anger and frustration over those who were lost. He has experienced hostility and anger of friends and families of drunk drivers, aimed at him and others in the criminal justice system. He has also witnessed firsthand the determined struggles of recovering alcoholics Page Six - The Pyramid - December 23, 1998: J.B.
