Show Page 12 - Pyramid Recreation Guide - Mav 20. 1998 Karlin Meyers portrays Joseph Smith the Prophet during play One of the main events being sponsored by the city of Moroni this year is a fireside presentation "Joseph Smith the Prophet" as portrayed by Karlin Meyers. Meyers is originally from Oregon. His ancestry is from Missouri, where they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints after being preached to by Joseph Smith Jr. They were some of the very first members of the church in Missouri. After the death of the prophet, some of Mr. Meyers ancestry, (just as some of Joseph Jr.s ancestry) joined the Reorganized LDS Church. Karlin Meyers joined the LDS Church at the age of 20, after which, he served a Spanish mission in Arcadia, speaking CA. Meyers is a single dad with four children. Meyers is an attorney with private practices in both Kanab and St. George. He also serves as judge for the Paiute Reservation in northern Arizona. Meyers says he was inspired to write the play about the Prophet Joseph Smith about three years ago. Since that time, he has presented the play over 30 times. Meyers has no training or experience as an actor. He attributes the success of the play to revelation. The play has been presented all over Utah and in various other locations including: Kirt-lanOH, Detroit, MI, Oregon, Arizona, Idaho, Virginia, and California. The family of Joseph Smith Sr. has invited Meyers back several times to perform for their family reunion. According to Meyers, this reunion is held back east once a year, for the Joseph Smith Jr. line, belonging to the Reorganized LDS Church. The next year the reunion will be held in Utah, for the Hyrum Smith line, belonging to the LDS Church. Having performed for this family on several occasions, Meyers has collected a great deal of Joseph Smith Jr. memorabilia including the death masks of Joseph and Hyrum. Other play goers have given Meyers journals, and documents from various people who knew the prophet. The play will be presented on Saturday, June 27 at the North Sanpete Middle School in Moroni.
