PLEASANT-Shirl- ey C. Madsen, 77, passed away on Jan. 21, 1998. He was born on June 4, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant to Christian T. and Sarah Swensen Madsen. He married Denice Blackham on May 25, 1942, in Yakima, WA. They spent 55 years together. His childhood was spent on the family farm west of Mt. Pleasant. Graduated from Wasatch in Academy May of 1937. Attended USU until the National Guard unit from Mt. Pleasant, of which he was a member, was called into service during World War II. Attending OCS training, after completion was assigned to the first as Cavalry Division second lieutenant. He earned the Bronze Star, four campaign ribbons, and three beachhead landing awards. Was discharged in Nov. 1945 with the rank of Captain. After the war, he settled in Mt. Pleasant and entered the livestock and ranching business with his father and three brothers. Opal Barton Opal E. Barton PLEASANT GROVE Opal Edlin Barton, age 88, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, in Pleasant Grove, UT. She was born March 25, 1909, in Oak Creek, UT to John Lisbon and Sarah Eunice Titcomb Mower. Opal married Edward Stephen Barton, Oct. 9, 1929, in Salt Lake City. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died July 23, 1977. Opal was an accomplished seamstress and cook. She enjoyed crocheting and assisting her husband in ranching. She worked as a waitress and was a supervisor at a sewing plant. For years she was a foster mother -- to many children. She was active in the LDS Church serving in various callings throughout her life. Opal was a loving and caring friend to all she met, especially those in need.
