PLEASANT It appears only Gunnison will hold a primary election to determine which two mayoral candidates will appear on the Nov. 7 municipal ballot. Three candidates filed for the two-yeinterim mayor post: Steven Buchanan (incumbent mayor appointee); Marilyn G. Hatch; and Mark Pickett. One of the candidates will be eliminated during the Oct. 3 primary election. Gunnison voters will have to wait until November to determine which of five candidates will fill three four-yecouncil vacancies, however. Those filing include: Vem Hatch, Brian Jensen (incumbent council appointee), Marianne W. Kjar; Karen C. Prisbrey, and Rodney Taylor (interim council appointee). More than two candidates must file for each council position in order for a primary election to be warranted. If the number of mayoral candidates filing in Gunnison indicates high interest in the upcoming municipal election, then just the reverse is true in Sterling where no one filed for two Town Board seats currently held by Mary Jansen and Tim Denton. However, there will still be a municipal election held in that town; voters will need to vote for their candidates on a write-i- n basis. Commission grants fiber optic line by Bruce Jennings MANT- I- The Sanpete County Commission last week granted Central Utah Telephone Company, located in Fairview, an easement from Fairview to Fountain Green covering installation of a fiber optic line on the Big Hollow Road. The Manti Telephone Company obtained a similar easement last summer with a, segment of the line going along First North to the companys office. Optic fiber line installations are made under the direction of U.S. West and represent a major advance in local telephone company officials say. "Were moving into a new era where fiber optic line replaces copper wire," said Eddie Cox, general manager of Central Utah Telephone Company. The fiber optic line has several advantages, according to company officials. For one thing it reduces the time required to cut into cable lines and results in less interference. Installation costs are high, but in the long run the fiber optic lines will save money, they claim. In other business, the commission once more demonstrated that the Aspen Hills subdivision is possibly the hottest real estate market in Sanpete as they accepted 12 bids for lots which the county had obtained title to at tax sales. Those lots will add around Continued to page 6 ar ar Mt. Pleasant where five candidates are vying for three four-yeseats: Sandra S. Bigler; Monte Bona; Shauna W. (incumbent); Claudia P.
