Show Page Eight - The Pyramid January 25, 1995 -- NS Board elects Alan Hall by Deanna Pate MT. PLEASANT Because of public complaints, fund raising was one of the issues discussed at last months school board work meeting,' attended by teachers from each school in the district. Superintendent Mower said that he thought it was in district guide lines that only one fund raiser per r &h' , l m. school per year was allowed except in the high school. The high school could have one per organization. It was determined that one fund raiser meant the type where students sold items to the general public. "In school" fund raisers were not included in the one per year ruling. They discussed asking for a straight donation from parents instead of having fund raisers, but principals stated that there would not be comparable amounts collected by straight donations. Principals stated that they understand the boards reason for the freeze but felt that they should have been informed from the beginning about the freeze so they could have worked together on the restraints. There was a brief discussion of the A, B, C, I grading system. Principal Syme said that not all teachers at the high school were prepared to grade by that system. Due to a lack of time further discussion was suspended. could Principals told the board members that they rarely hear complaints from the public. They also felt that the money raised was of greater benefit than the few complaints that are heard. Another topic of discussion was the School Boards freeze on travel for faculty and administrators in the district. It was explained that the freeze was only until the districts construction projects were completed. After completion the board would reassess funds and determine when the freeze would be lifted. i . out-of-sta- te Immediately upon the conclusion of the work meeting with teachers the board went into its regular board meeting.
