Apparently what got Sanpete County off to a good start water-wis- e was the generosity of October, November and December, the first quarter of the 1994-9- 5 water year. Thats 114 percent of the longtime average. is that That good news was provided by SnowTel, the electronic measuring device that makes weather data on matters like snow depth and water content available. And the good news from Fairview Canyon is not an isolat ed case. At Seeley Creek, along the Skyline Drive, at the 10,000 foot elevation, the water content is 8.9 inches, 120 percent of normal. The Beaver Dam, near the bottom end of Twelve Mile Canyon, east of Mayfield, has 4.4 inches of water in the snow. That, however, is below average. Sevier County, though, is not .faring as well as Sanpete judging by the reports out of Salina Canyon. Both Farnsworth Lake and average. And those storms evidently dumped a lot of water the mountain where its in storage. The first truly definitive information on water prospects wont be available until when the Natural Resources Conservation Service (formerly the Soil Conservation Service) sends snow survey crews via helicopter to high mountain sites to make precise measurements. mid-winte- r, Moroni closer to new well MORON- I- Sunrise Engineer Val Kofoed updated the City Council on a possible location for Local resident honored on 80th NEPHI-- Former Moroni resident Elbert (Hank) Morley d his celebrated birthday on Jan. 17 with his children at a Nephi restaurant. In a telephone interview on Monday, Kofoed said a detailed study had been done and areas were located where nitrate levels in the ground water were low. According to their information, the best area in which to develop a well site is just west of the city. Property owners must be contacted so a specific location for the new well can be identified before the information can be made public. TAX TIPS FOR INDIVIDUALS The Earned Income Credit is one of the most beneficial sections of our tax code. This credit allows individuals who earn wages or have income under certain amounts to take a credit against the taxes they owe for the year. In the past, this was only available to taxpayers with children. However, did you know that for 1994, people without children can take advantage of this credit? The law was changed to include those without children earning under $9,000. They can have a credit of up to $306 against their taxes. Taxpayers with one child and income up to $23,755 can take a credit of up to $2,038. With two or more children and income less than $25,297, the maximum credit is $2,528. So, if your wages and salaries plus income are less than the amounts shown above, you can reduce your taxes. The credit is reported on Schedule EIC. Or, the IRS will figure it for you if you want them to, although we discourage this. If you are considering electronic filing and qualify for the Earned Income Credit, please consider the additional cost versus the benefit of receiving your refund one or two weeks earlier than with a regular paper return. We spoke with the IRS last week and there are significant changes in the electronic filing program for 1 994. The service lost approximately $11,000,000 last year due to fraud and abuses of the program and are now tightening their rules. For 1 994, they have instituted new procedures whereby any refunds due to the Earned Income Credit will only be refunded through regular paper checks sent through the mail, rather than direct deposits. Therefore, there is no advantage to electronic filing if most of your refund is due to the Earned Income Credit. Also, the Refund Anticipation Loans will be delayed this year because the IRS no longer issues their preliminary indication that a tax return was accepted, which allows the bank or other lender to approve the loan. Due to the additional costs incurred, we do not recommend Electronic Filing or Refund Anticipation Loans. Unless your refund approximates three to four thousand dollars, the interest cost is excessive. If you would like a quick refund, we would suggest first - FILE EARLY. This cuts the IRS's refund time from weeks to an average of 4 weeks for 6-- a regular return. Second - FILE A 1040PC. This is a return filed through a personal computer which will reduce your time by probably two weeks over a regular return and costs very little. Third ORGANIZE YOUR RECORDS. We have a list of "Things to Bring" which will help you determine what documents you need for your return which we will give you at no charge. Please call for details or schedule a initial appointment. B) Bank One will lend you up to 100 ofyour home equity. For some reason, most banks dontthink ufanByPhone 20 of your house is worth much.
