Music will be provided by the Mt. Pleasant Stake. Choral rehearsals will begin Sunday, Jan. 22, 7'p.m., in the Mt. Pleasant Stake Center, 295 S. State, and will continue (same time, same place) until the per- at Snow College, the Convocation program is being offered on a weekly basis. Students may register for a special general studies class and receive one credit hour for attending at least seven convocations, as well as one theater or dance production and one music or art event. As always the convocations are free and open to the public. There will be a program each ' Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the Crane Theater. The Convocation Committee, consisting of student, faculty and administrative representatives is committed to seeking programs of variety, quality and interest. The next convocation program will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, when Delta High School teacher Jane Beckwith will help commemorate Human Rights Day with a presentation on the Topaz 4 Camp. Topaz, northwest of Delta in the Utah desert, was one of several internment camps established by the U.S. government during World War II in an outbreak of racism resulting from Japans attack on Pearl Harbor. Beckwith is a lifelong resident formance. Joan McAllister says that past performances have been exciting, artistic and spiritual experiences for both performers and audiences, and have been an important addition to Sanpete Countys cultural tradition. Anasazi, a Navajo name for the ancient ones, is a culture sequence that is continuous but can be divided into successive called stages of development, horizons. The earliest covers a period from Pre A.D. 1, called the basket makers, to the present, who are called Pueblo. The Anasazi were basically a farming group; the Ute were considered gatherers and hunters. These two groups lived in Utah, and are part of our history and development. She returned to Delta at the end of that year to resume her English and journalism classes. Its ironic that one of the darkest examples of human rights violations in American History has left traces at Snow College. The Art Barn, the wooden structure south of the Noyes Building, began its existence as living quarters at Topaz for Japanese American families who had been displaced from their west coast homes. Pleasant Library program MT. PLEASAN- T- "Before the Settlers: Utahs Disappearing Prehistoric Culture" is the subject of a program being held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 7 p.m., at the'Mt. Pleasant Public Library. Jim Dykman, a Utah State Historical Society archeologist will be the guest speaker. He has worked as an archeologist in Utah since 1974 and says some of the most varied and rich prehistoric culture in the U.S. is contained in Utah. Special emphasis will be on the Anasazi, Ute and historical and industrial archeology, and will feature slides and artifacts showing the varied cultures and some of the contributions these cultures have given us. This years company consists of 30 members, 10 returning and 20 freshmen sophomores who auditioned last fall. The company meets daily to perfect their skills in dance technique and to do what they enjoy best, exthemselves pressing through movement. Their annual Spring concert will be performed in May. Orchesis will host the Ephraim Middle School on Wednesday, Jan. 25 and the Ephraim Elementary School on Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Crane Theater to perform their newly staged "Elemental Movement". The public is welcome to see the performance on the evenings of Thursday and Friday, Jan. 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. in the Crane Theater. Tickets will be available at the door. "Elemental Movement" was first performed in the Moroni Middle School in November. It is presented in two parts: the first is performed to a backdrop of music and script while the dancers e MT. PLEASANT Singers are being sought to participate in the tenth annual Sanpete County Easter Musical Celebration, which will be presented April 9. Although the event is sponsored by the Mt. Pleasant LDS Stake, the Easter celebration is an interdenominational, county wide activity. All Sanpete area residents who are interested in singing in the choir are welcome. Auditions are not necessary; the only requirement is a love for singing great music. Lewis was born in Fountain Green, where he lived until his early teens when his parents," the late Abram and Sadie Livingston, moved the family to Logan. He later met Irene, daughter of the late Enoch Arden and Mary Charlesworth Broadbent of Ogden. They were married in Ogden on Jan. 17, 1945.. After serving his country in WWII, the couple moved to Craig, CO, where Lewis was employed as a rancher and realtor. An open house honoring the couple will be held June 24 at their residence, 870 Finley Lane, Craig, CO.
