TSjrwpf :mk mmrnm The other cities have four traffic lanes their streets while Fairview s main street is only two traffic lanes wide. This should be considered in any decision about the safety of such a change in speed. Also to be considered is the question of whether children going from the west side of town to the new Fairview School will be safe when it opens. Because the school is so far away from the highway, no 20 mile per hour speed limit signs will be posted along the street as they now are. With drivers allowed by state officers to travel five miles over the limit before citations are written, motorists will be prone to do the same thing through the a city. Is a speed of 40 miles per hour exist which conditions the safe one under in Fairview? EDITORIAL The opinions of city officials and law enforcement personnel as to what is best for Fairview were ignored last week as the Utah Department of Transportation raised the speed limit through the city from 30 miles per hour to 35. The department change has been made and it is apparent that the people are expected to like it or lump it. While it is true that the Transportation Department has the responsibility of seeing that traffic moves smoothly on all state highways, no bottle neck has existed in the city according to police. Other cities farther south have a 35 mile per hour limit, but they also have wider streets making the higher speed somewhat safer, although there are many citizens who question whether those speeds in their towns are too high. n, Fairview Betty Ramsey Mt.
