Show Wedding Anniversary, family Reunion Come Jointly for Pioneer Pair An interesting feature of the Bi-ahop Bi-ahop Lars Anderson of EphiUim family reunion which will be held at Maple Canyon Saturday, July 28 Is that on that day Bishop James Larsen and his wife, believed to be two of the oldest memebers in the association, will be observing their fifty-third wedding anniversary. De cendants and relatives of Lars and Hans Anderson, Mary Poulsen and Niels Johansen 1 will attend the meet, which will begin with a business session at 1:30 p. m. Bishop James .Larsen was born January 18, 1858, at Ephraim, a son of Jens and Myren (Mary) Andersen An-dersen Larsen, and came to Mount Pleasant at the age of one year. His father arrived here in February Febru-ary of that year, among the town's first twenty settlers. The mother and son James followed him here, in May. Following his fathers death Ncv. 4, 1862 from diphtheria, Mrs. Larsen became the wife of Hans Poulsen, who subsequently fathered James and his brother, Aril-drew, Aril-drew, who is also a well known resident in this community. A sister, sis-ter, Karen Marie, died at the age ot nine. Mt. Pleasant has since been Bishop Bi-shop Larsen's home, and he has been active over a long period cf years in church and political affairs, af-fairs, as well an In the livestock and farming industry. He was bishop bi-shop of the South ward from 1900 to 1913, during which time the waid chapel was erected. He has also held effice as one of the .seven presidents of saventies, and presided pre-sided for seme time over the ward Mutuals. In February, 1888 he went on an L. D. S. mission to the South, laboring la-boring for several years in Georgia, Alabama and Florida. He was mobbed mob-bed several times while there and whipped once, being forced to strip and then get onto his hands and knees while a strap was laid across his back. "There has been a great change-in change-in the reception accorded Latter-days," Latter-days," Bi'hop Larsen said. "Now people arc more tolerant the better bet-ter classes at any rate and are not so unwilling to hear the message that is brought to them." In politics, Bishop Larsen has been actively interested as a voter for many years, though he has held civil office but once, when he was a member of the city council. He was married on July 28, 1881 t:- Eliza M. Tidwell, a daughter of James Harvey and Elizabeth Harvey Har-vey Tidwell, prominent early day pione?rs here. Hn bride was 17 at the time cf their marriage, having boon born March 30, 1864, in Mount Pleasant. They hpve had four daughters, one cf whom Edith Elizabeth L. Rcbis: n died of influenza in 1918. Three ethers, Mrs. H. C. Jacobs, Mrs. A. W. Anderson and Miss Helen Hel-en Larsen. are living; also nine grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. greatgrand-child. Mrs. Larsen has been perennially active in church circles. She has erved for better than 20 years as P.clicf society teacher, as class leader of the literary division in the ward relief society, and as director di-rector in charce cf decorations in the ward chape-l during funerals.
