Show PYRAMID THE 10 Thursday, September 16, 2004 Sanpete County Fair, Anything Goes -- Snow College announces weekly Anything Shows, pet show winners MANT- The Sanpete Anything Shows pet show, had a great turn out of 58 contestants from all over the county with a big variety of pets. Smokey the Bear was a special guest. He spoke to the kids about fire safety and ave them all packets with mokey Bear items. The announcer of the event, JD Fox, was favored by all the kids. The judges were Carolyn Bessey and Joan Larsen, both of whom did a great job and presented nine trophies. There was a $10 award to Best of Show, and Coke mugs were given to 18 honorable mentions. Pet categories included: birds, cats, dogs, most unique, large pets, rabbits, reptiles, costume and an open category for pets that didnt quite fit into the other categories; followed by a best of show. Winners were: Courtlund Cox and Greggor, his Macaw, birds; Spencer Agren and Tiger, cats; Paige County I- Convocation series Fair DeLeeuw and Chloe, dogs; Kaytie Nielson and Chocolate, rabbits; and Kaden Kirkman with his salamander friends, reptiles. EPHRAIM- - Everyone is encouraged to attend the Snow College Convocation Series, a weekly lecture or performance series which takes place every Thursday from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m., in the Jorgnesen Concert Hall of the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts. There is no charge and the facility has plenty of seats available. Teachers can earn points for the programs offered through the Utah Humanities Council, but everyone can find something of interest during the semester. Sept. 16, for example, Bette O. Arial, director of Government Affairs and Public Relations for Envirocare, will discuss "Whats Hot in the West Desert? Her topic addresses one of the most controversial issues of land use in Utah. Sept. 23, offers an environmentalist view of water use in Utah. Merritt Frey, executive director of the Utah Rivers Council, a organization, brings a presentation called "Beyond Dams: Creative Challenges for the future of Water in Utah." In these drought years, this topic is of crucial interest. The Music Department will present the Convocation on Sept. 30, with guest artist Art Lande, pianist and drummer, who will also perform an evening concert on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Details on this event will be announced at a later date.
