PLEASAN- T- After jumping out to an 2 start, the 8-- North Sanpete Hawk Baseball Team is mired in a five-salosing streak. Losses number four and five came last week at the hands of the Emery Spartans by a score of 9-and to the Delta Rabbits, 17-In Castle Dale last Tuesday against the Spartans, North Sanpete scored twice in the second and once in the third to take a 0 lead. In the top of the fourth, the Hawks were threatening once again, but base running mistakes ended the threat without a score. Hawk mistakes continued in the bottom of the fourth as four Spartan hits combined with four Hawk errors put Emery ahead for the first time, 3. Emery stretched its lead with two more runs in the fifth. North Sanpete tightened it back up in the top of the sixth on singles by Shandon Shepherd and Clint Aime and a double by Kevin Bailey. Emery would not let the Hawks get too close as doubles and a single raised the Spartan lead to 9-Two singles was all the Hawks could muster in the top of the seventh to make the final 9-Shepherd pitched the first four innings for the Hawks giving up seven runs, three earned, on six hits. Rory Johnson tossed the final two innings for North Sanpete, surrendering two runs on four hits. Brett Johnson caught the full game for the Hawks. 2, 6, 2, 6. Junior varsity The North Sanpete underclassmen had a long week, losing JV baseball games to Emery and Delta, and losing a close double header against a sophomore-freshma- n team at Juab. The sophomore-freshma- n team lost 12-- 3 in Castle Dale to the Emery Spartans on Tuesday, and 14-- 1 at home to the Delta Rabbits on Friday. In between, the Hawks played against Juab and lost 2 in the first game and 4-- 3 in the second. 3-- 5-- 3-- last at bat to take the exciting contests. In the first Juab game, Kevin Bailey and Clint Aime both went to lead the Hawks. Ray Johnson and Mori Barker shared the pitching duties, with Preston Holgreen behind the plate. Bailey and Josh Slade drove in the runs for the Hawks. In the second game, Johnson went driving in two runs for the Hawks. Greg Poulson drove in the third Hawk run with a fourth inning single. Ryan Montague pitched the complete game for North Sanpete, taking the loss when Juab rallied for two runs in their last at bat. Against Delta, Clint Aime and Tyrel Irons were on the mound for North Sanpete. Ben Kamalu went to lead them at the plate. The four-gam- e was slug-fe- st filled with plenty of offense as both teams combined for 56 runs, providing fans with an array of heroic feats. Game one served as a harbinger for the weekend series when TVCC jumped all over the Badgers in the first inning, scoring four .runs before most fans arrived at the game. Despite a shaky start, Jon Lewis went the distance for the win, striking out 10 batters on his way to his sixth consecutive win. Chris Luras had the big bat in game three, going from the plate with a two-ru- n home ' run. Mckay Wilkerson, Brent Francom and Huntington each had a pair of hits. The Badgers failed again to keep TVCC from having a big first inning in game four as the Chukars wrapped Snow for five runs in the opening frame. Unlike the previous games. The Badgers are in a desperate race to qualify for the Region 18 Tournament and play a four-gam- e set against UVSC this weekend.
