The weekly program will be held at 11 a.m., at the library, for children ages 3 to 10. A reading contest for children who sign up will correspond with the time frame of the program, with prizes to be given. PLEASAN- T- Wasatch Academy honored Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Jack M. Lewis with a Alumni Award Distinguished during the schools annual Founders Day celebration April 19. The annual award goes to individuals who have distinguished themselves in the fields of business, education, medicine, science, government, military or any other honest human endeavor; or are credited with a noble achievement or service; or have been especially helpful to Wasatch Academy throughout the years and exemplify Wasatch ideals. Senators Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett and Governor Mike Leavitt expressed their congratulations to Lewis in letters that were presented at the ceremony. Lewis grew up in Spanish Fork and attended Wasatch Academy for four years, graduating as senior class president in 1939. To pay for his tuition, he worked summer jobs such as institutional work, sheepherding, road work and ranching. He served on the board of trustees from 1976 to 1981 and continues to be a loyal supporter of the school. In 1941, Lewis enlisted in the Army Air Corps, now the U. S. Air Force and soon applied for Officer Candidate School, achiev- -. ing the rank of lieutenant colonel. Indochina, Germany and Japan and was stationed at bases in the United States and throughout the world. On his retirement, he went to work for Ohio Aviation in Day-toOH, where he met Utahs Jon Huntsman and Bill Goodson, who came to purchase a plane. Lewis returned to Utah to teach them how to fly and was later hired as Huntsmans personal pilot. s, During the early to Lewis and his brother, Ray, built an airplane, which later logged many hours of flying time. In honor of this feat, the Utah Aviation Association awarded him a plaque. Founded in 1875, Wasatch Academy is the oldest continuousln, mid-1980- secondary y-running school in Utah and the states only boarding high school. Currently enrolled are 130 boarding students and 30 day students. The college preparatory school is said to be committed to academic excellence and has a studentteacher ratio of 6 to 1.
