Show Page Two - The Pyramid - June 8, 1994 INITAIRY Madelyn Allred honored on 80th birthday FOUNTAIN GREE- N- Madelyn E. Allred celebrated her eightieth birthday on May 30, 1994. Family better F word She was bom May 30, 1914, in Scofield to Phillip and Celes-tin- a Elardo. She married D. Euray Allred on March 27, 1940, in the Manti LDS Temple. If last Saturdays Founders Day Mud Rally in Centerfield is any indication, some changes should be made in summer events to make them fun for everyone. While excessive drinking, rowdy behavior and foul language may be entertaining to some, most families prefer to have their fun without these amenities. And while watching souped up, tacked out, drive gas burners take to the mud is exhilarating, watching a street class vehicle burn out of the parking area and down the road is frightening, especially when so many children are present and' the driver is obviously inebriated. : So where is the balance? .'We will disagree with the argument that one should expect rowdies because those are the kind of people who frequent such contests. A majority of those attending Saturdays event were families whose ice chests (if they had them) were probably chilling soda pop and sandwiches, not beer. . Unfortunately people, who stay away from these kinds of events because they are afraid of having to deal with societys rougher element, lose a lot of good clean (muddy) fun. The Founders Day Mud Rally was entertaining for spectators and challenging for participants. We commend those who organized and sponsored the event, provided refreshments, or contributed in any way. Your efforts were appreciated. It was a shame that such a successful event had to be clouded by a few ruffians whose interpretation of fun included making drunken spectacles of themselves, constandy using language that went beyond foul and loud enough for many to hear, as well as endangering others. Their actions might be acceptable in private gatherings where that kind of behavior is unobserved by the rest of the world, but definitely not in public. And disobeying traffic rules under any conditions should not be tolerated, especially when it involves total disregard to the safety of children. The solution? To start with, a few cars with light bars and sirens would be a definite deterrent. Event organizers also need to be specific about what will and will not be tolerated and then make sure spectators are aware of the rules before they are admitted. Summer celebrations are eagerly anticipated by all ages because they represent family tradition and values. We hope those in charge will ensure that future summer events will live up to those expectations in every way. She has five children: Celes WA; Ericksen, Ellensburg,. Naomi Bennion, West Valley City; Phillip and Bryan, Fountain ' four-whe- el . Green; and Jeannine Sorensen, Provo. She also has 20 grandchildren and two Madelyn E. Allred Her hobbies include quilting, crocheting and sewing. Shes an exceptionally good pie maker and her grandchildren think Nonnies. cookies are the best ever. Mayors Corner Water, water not? . We all know that here in the arid west, water is a valuable commodity. In the city of Mt. Pleasant, this commodity should not be more valuable to one citizen than another. As we look at the storage reservoir east of us, we can easily see that the snow pack is just about all gone and we are going to have to watch our water use. As we look around town, we see that everyone is trying to make their yards look green and nice, and most everyone is using the irrigation system as it is meant to be used. .However, we still have a few citizens who seem to think that they are entitled to more than others. The water in the Pleasant Creek system belongs, with only one exception that I can think of, to all of the citizens and should be used equally. In the near future, we are . going to put the system on restricted use, and will expect everyone to try their best to comply.
