Pony Express 81 Services held for former Ernest James Johnson, 81, died July 29, 1972 of natural causes, in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Mr. Johnson, who was often called Ben, or E. J., was born April 21, 1891 in Fountain green, Sanpete County, to Alfred and Mette Marie Jensen Johnson. He received his early education in the Fountain Green schools. He married Maud Guymon November 1917 in the Manti LDS Temple. She died in March 1931. He married E. Winifred Cook September 12, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their marriage was performed by David O. McKay. While living in Fountain Green, Mr. Johnson was active in civic and religious affairs. He was a and manager of the Fountain Green Garage, a particularly in- terested in the sheep industry. Mr. Johnson served as a misionary in the Birtish LDS . Mission from From 1926-2- 9 he was the Bishop of the Fountain Green Ward, and later, the first counselor in the Moroni Stake Presidency serving with James L. Nielson as Stake President and Abram Livingston as second counselor. This was the first stake presidency in the newly organized Moroni Stake, 1923-26- 1929. Mr. Johnson moved to Salt Lake City about 1932. He was always interested in furthering his education, taking special classes relating to his work, at the BYU and the University of Burial was in the Fountain Green City Cemetery, under the direction of Bishop Richard Winters, and the Larkin Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 2, 1972 in the Larkin Mortuary, Salt Lake City, with Bishop Richard Winters of the Bonneville Ward officiating.
