Show I SPRING CITY j I By Special Correspopndence ' Mrs. Christena Blain Observes Her 81st Birthday, Monday The eighty-first birthday of Mrs. Christena Blain was observed by her family at her home Monday, June 16th. Mrs. Blain is very outstanding for her years. Attending her church meetings and social e-vents e-vents of the city and ward. She does some home work and cares for her beautiful flower gardens. She was born at Fort Ephraim June 16, 1866, a daughter of John D. and Christena Johnson Petersen. Peter-sen. Mrs. Blain has served in the ward organization as a counselor coun-selor in the relief society. She became a counselor February 3, 1917 and remained in this position posi-tion until February 1923. She has served for many years as a relief society visiting teacher. She married John T. Blain in July 1884. They reared a family of five daughters, Mrs. Ethel Lar-sen, Lar-sen, Mrs. Grace Fullmer, Mrs. Vera Downard, Spring City, Mrs. Blanche Willis, Altadena, California Cali-fornia and Mrs. Erma Williams, Salt Lake City. There are 15 grand children and 6 great grand children. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pyper and small son Blain, of Salt Lake City were visitors Sunday at tne home of their mother, Mrs. Odell Blain. Lilia Lee and Dwane Blain returned home with them after a visit to Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Edmunds and daughters of Salt Lake City, visited vis-ited Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elgant Covert. Mr. and Mrs. Virgus Osborne, Glen and Leo Osborne were Salt Lake City visitors lhursaay. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Maxfield of Tooele spent trie week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Blain. Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Maxfield and Mrs. Blain were Provo visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Nordell Allred and small daughter, were week end visitors at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Royal All-red, All-red, they have been living in Logan the past winter where Nordell has been attending the Agricultural college. Also visiting visit-ing at the Allred home and that of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Justesen were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Allred. Mr. and Mrs. Lamont Jensen of this city and their son and daughter, Mr. and . Mrs. Neldon Jensen of Ephraim have been recent visitors in Provo. Neldon and wife are moving to Provo where Neldon will attend school at the B. Y. U. 'Miss Rochelle Sorensen is visiting vis-iting her aunt, Mrs. Clifford Justesen Jus-tesen at Midvale. Mrs. Boyd Allred, Y. L. M. I. A. President, attended the recent M. I. A. convention at Salt Lake City. Stake Primary officers attending attend-ing the Primary General convention conven-tion from Spring City were: Mrs. Ada Ellis, Mrs. Nellie Blain, Mrs. Neva Dye, Mrs. Christie Bunnell, Mrs. Libbie Allred and Ward officer, of-ficer, Mrs. Athene Osborne and Mrs. Iva Aiken. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Larsen and boys of Fairview, and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Allred and baby of Provo, visited Sunday at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reid H. Allred. Spencer Covert graduated from the University of Southern California Cali-fornia and received his Master's Degree of Science in Education. He was formerly of this city and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elgant El-gant Covert also of this city. Roy Allred, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Allred, is home to visit his parents. He is in the Navy and has been in Okinawa. He reports re-ports next to San Diego, Calif. Mr. ana Mrs. i. Aiirea leu early Sunday morning for Provo upon receiving word in the night their brother-in-law, Frank Larsen Lar-sen of that city, had suddenly died Saturday evening of a heart ailment. The wife of Mr. Larsen was formerly Florence Brough of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Allred will attend the funeral services in Provo on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Devon Osborne and baby of Salt Lake City are at present visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Osborne and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Allred of this city. Kenneth Osborne was a Salt Lake City visitor Monday. Mrs. Royal Allred, Nordell All-red, All-red, Mrs. Sarah Justesen and Leila Allred left for Provo Monday Mon-day upon learning Roger Allred had been operated on for appendicitis. append-icitis. It was an emergency case. David and Larry Larsen of Fairview are visiting their grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reid H. Allred. John S. Blain is at the present time in Missouri. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Joseph I. Beck Sunday were their children, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Beck of Salt Lake City, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Arnoldsen and family of Moroni, Clifford Stubbs of Provo and Lewis Reid Beck. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Black and children and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Reid Black of Salt Lake City, visited Saturday and Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Angus Black. Mrs. Vera Downard and sons, Robert and Richard Downard are visiting in Washington with Mrs. Lewella Myers and family. Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Osborne and Miss helma Osborne were Salt Lake City visitors the past week. Mr. arid Mrs. Grant E. Burns and baby of Salt Lake City visited visit-ed with Mr. and Mrs. John Peterson Peter-son Sunday. The Petersons are grandparents of Mr. and Mrs. Burns. The marriage ceremony of Miss Patricia Justesen to Mr. Roger J. Rasmussen of Ephraim will be performed in the Manti Temple Friday, June 20. The young bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn justesen of this city. She attended school at the North Sanpete High School and Snow College at Ephraim. A wedding reception in their honor will br held at the home of Mrs. Petroa Larsen. grandmother of the bride. Mrs. Eva J. Allred fell at her home Sunday morning and re- j " ceived several bad hurts and j bruises. ! Mr. Gilbert Nyberg, now with his daughter, Mrs. Wanda Syn-dergaard Syn-dergaard in Salt Lake City, is in poor health, relatives have recently re-cently learned. i Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Neilsen and Mrs. Grace Neilsen visited in Salt Lake City the past week with relatives. Mrs. Charlotte Olson fell at her home Friday anu sustained several sev-eral broken ribs. She was paper hanging at the time of her fall. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schofiled were Salt Lake City visitors Monday. Mon-day. They made the trip to bring their daughter from the L. D. S. Primary Childrens hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Hansen had their children all visiting them on Sunday. They were: Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hansen and children, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Hansen and children of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Welby Rodeback, and family of Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Hansen and family and Allen Hrisen of this city. ' I The Priesthood Deacon boys won over Fairview in a baseball game, Wednesday with a score of 21 to 0. Mr. ' and Mrs. Joseph Justesen entertained their children and grand children at dinner, Sunday at their home. Those present were:- Mr. and Mrs. R. Anderson and children of Midvale, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Beck and son of Draper, Maurice Justesen and son of Ogden, Mrs. A. B. Sumsion if Cheney, Washington. Wash-ington. -The latter two remained for a few days. Miss Geneva Strate is visiting in Salt Lake City. Francis Schofield returned home Sunday from Pennsylvania where he has been stationed as a member mem-ber of the Army. He has been for the past while in the Military Police. He has received his honorable hon-orable discharge from the Army. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Claren Schofield. Mrs. LoRee Hickman of Reno, Nevada is visiting :ier parents, Bp. and Mrs. E. B. Terry. Mrs. Hickman is accompanied on her visit by her small children. The "following young ladies of the Spring City ward have received re-ceived their merit awards as groups and members of the L. D. S. Girls Committee. They were required to fulfill these requirements require-ments to receive individual a-wards: a-wards: An average attendance of 50 per cent to Sacrament meeting meet-ing per month, or year; 75 per cent to Sunday School, 75 per cent to M. I. A. meetings; participation partici-pation in the Church Welfare project; a tithe payer; observance of the Word of Wisdom and during dur-ing the year to give one public talk. The girls are: Leila Allred, Neva Beck, Sherlene Allred. Mehl Roe Draper, Donna Bunnell, Joyce Sorensen, Mor Rae Blain, Lenore Allred. Noreen Acord, Ruth Ellis. Carol Terry, Shirley Schofield, Maxola Olson, Maurine Schofield, Scho-field, Sherma Allred, Beverely Osborne. Yvonne Aiken, Leila Ruth Allred, FaNon Watson, Patsy Pat-sy Schofield, Betty Lou Pherson. There are three groups in thej ward and other than the individual indi-vidual awards all three groups j have their awards. They are the only ones in the North Sanpete San-pete Stake to receive an all group award. To obtain this the groups 25 per cent Sacrament meeting attendance, 50 per cent attendance attend-ance at Sunday School, 50 per cent at M. I. A. meetings. 85 per cent observance of the Word of Wisdom, and 85 per cent giving their talks. Mrs. Vurleen Osborne is chairman chair-man of this Committee with Mrs. Enid Baxter, Mrs. Edith Schofield, Scho-field, Mrs. LaVon Allred, Mrs. Ruth McKinney, as the Advisors and Miss Geneva Strate as secretary. sec-retary. The girls were honored and received re-ceived awards in Sacrament meeting Sunday evening. The Guide and Trekker Primary Pri-mary boys organized their summer sum-mer base ball officers as follows: Captain, Don Schofield and manager, man-ager, Leo Osborne. |
