Show county high schools of far reaching importance is the law past by the last legislature providing state aid for high schools I 1 4 2 mill of the eight mill state tax is now to be used for high school purposes it will mean mucha much to their progress pro ress for the secondary schools to receive about from the state in in a year the law relating tto to the distribution trib ution of the state high school fund makes it the duty of the z state board of education to fix the standard upon which schools shall operate to participate in the benefits of thea fund already the board has sent out a preliminary announcement as to the course of study and it has advised those concerned of the following requirements Only teach ers holding high school dillom as or equivalents shall be employed school must be maintained not less than thirty six weeks per year including holi daya at least a two year course must bo 40 given the now new law brov provides ides that each county within the state except such counties as are constituted I 1 school districts of the first class shall constitute a high school district provided however that any common or high school district which is now maintaining a high school shall continue with all the power and authority now possessed by such district for the purpose of levying the necessary tax for maintaining such high school for the school year 1911 1912 as wed well as for the purpose of maintaining such high school f for or su such 1 ch period and to that extent any such district shall not be effected by any provision of this act or by anything done by the board of county commissioners under the author authority ity of the new law the law provides that each county super superintendent in of district schools shall report to the board of county commissioners as to or not in his opinion the county should remain one high school district or be divided the county high school board of education is to consist of the county superintendent super of schools and a member of each district school board of trustees in the high school district the board of education shall meet and organize by the election of one its members as president and another as vice president it shall also elect a clerk and a treasurer the clerk and trea treasurer treasured suret shall each give a bond in such sum as shall be fixed by the board of education immediately after the establishment lish ment of each high sch school ciol district the board of education shall call cail an election by giving at least twenty days notice thereof for the purpose of sub mif eting to the qualified electors of such high school district the following questions 1 shall the high school dis brict establish and maintain one or more high schools within the district if more than one high school is to be established and maintained then the proposed number must be stated 2 at what place or places in tv the high school district shall high schools be established rand in maintained a the board of education shall have the power and authority to establish and maintain high schools at such places as may be authorized by a vote of the qualified voters of the district to establish and support school libraries to purchase all necessary hi high 0 h school apparatus f books and school supplies to levy annually upon all the taxable property in the district a tax not exceeding five mills on the dollar etc |
