Second place went to Kanosh Ward, who was coached by Joann Turner and It may be a bit premature to mention federal income taxes before the filing season begins in January, but the Internal Revenue Service wants to help you provide a community service by helping others. Beginning in late January or February there will be more than 50 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) locations in Utah and about half that number of Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites stretching from Logan to St. George. Volunteers who are willing to staff these sites are being recruited now and will be given training as early as January 3 in Salt Lake City. Other locations will also provide training in January. For more information or to volunteer to become a part of these programs, call Jan or Hadley or Bill Craig at in Salt Lake City. Volunteers are trained by the IRS to provide assistance on simple (ax returns-1040- A, 1040-Eand 1040 with schedules A and B. People with more complex returns should seek professional tax assistance. Last year about 6,000 Utahns received free assistance from VITA and TCE volunteers in preparation of federal and state tax returns or who had tax questions answered. Answer: In Utah as well as in the vast majority of the slates everyone under a specific age must take some form of hunter safety. In Utah that age is 21 . In Colorado everyone applying for his or her first Colorado hunting license must have had completed a hunter safety course no matter the age. During the 1982 deer season there was one fatality which occurred after dark on the last day of the hunt. The hunter was returning to his vehicle, fell and his rifle discharged, killing the individual. There was no need for the accident to happen. If this individual had been hunting with an empty chamber until he was about to shoot , he w ould be alive. In 1956, Utah Jiad the worst hunting accident rate in (he nation, but since the Hunter Education program began in 1957, the accident rate had declined and since then Utah has consistently had one of the lowest rates. |
