Last year, our state spent more than $15.5 million in pupil transportation services. We had 1,257 school buses and 1,576 drivers on 2,211 routes. They carried 10.000 students to and from school each day and traveled miles, 14,225,882 using 3.450.000 gallons of fuel. Clayton went on to explain that pupil transportation is also very important business. Our main concern is We he declared. safety, maintain our buses in safe condition. Failure to obey the school bus stop law is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $299, a jail sentence of 6 months, or both. Stressed Clayton, Sometimes drivers are not fully alert and pass a stopped school bus before they arc able to react. This is very dangerous situation for the children, especially younger ones who may not be paying proper attention to traffic. Utah can be justifiable proud of its school bus safety record .
