Since he lacked three days of being twenty years old when he was killed, his biography will necessarily be very short, I am therefore adding the description of Clayton which my daughter Belva wrote, after looking at Claytons picture. Clayton was born January 19, 1923, in Fillmore, Utah, the son of Alonzo and Nellie Melville Huntsman. His maternal grandparents were Hannah Hanson Huntsman and Gabriel were all pioneers of Riley Huntsman. His Fililmore and are all buried in the Fillmore cemetery. He was a handsome child and grew into a handsome young man, with an exceptional keen brain and sweet disposition, the pride and joy of the whole family. He graduated with honors from the Millard High School just after the United States entered World War II. He voluteered to join the Air Corps, and was sent to Virginia to train for duty. He was commissioned a Flight Officer in the Air Corps, and was training to go overseas but before he was to leave for overseas duty, the graduates were having a demonstration of their maneuvers, when one of the planes flew under Claytons plane and sheared off part of the tail of his plane. The airfield w as crow ded w ith w atchers and Clayton tried to maneuver his plane out away from the crowd in order not kill the people on the ground. His plane lost altitude quickly and before he could jump, the plane was only thirty feet from the ground. He was literally crushed by the fall, but no one else was killed. This was January 16, 1943, just three days before Clayton would be twenty years old. The Air Force sent his family a Medal of Honor which the Air Force awarded Clayton posthumously, for his heroism in giving his life to save the lives of the watchers. Our family have a picture of this handsome pilot in his uniform and after studying the picture, my daughter, Belva wrote the following description of her thoughts: One can look at the picture of Clayton and read from it the story of his life thus far. Beginning with his class ring, we read the story of his love and loyalty for his classmates, by the constant wearing of his ring, Clayton shows his deep seated desire to keep the memories of their companionship with him whereever he goes. On the other hand we see that Clayton is wearing a ring given to him by his sainted uncle, William Melville, who did much toward shaping Clayton's thoughts and actions. From the rings we glance at this bracelet, given to him by his sweetheart. The wearing of this bracelet shows the love and devotion he had for one sweet girl. From his hands we go to the service stripes on his sleeve, indicating a distinction which might be coveted by one much older than this nineteen year old lad. As we raise our eyes to the silver wings, and we thrill with pride for this lad who fought so diligently, so unflinchingly, in -- Church of Christ Its A Girl!! These wings represent the backbone, strength of character as well as hours and hours of study and toil spent by this high school graduate, who though in competition with college graduates, was undanted by this handicap, but was determined to become the possessor and proud wearer of these wings. The knowledge of this diligence makes Clayton more precious to those of us w ho knew Clayton best. We just need one look at that determined chin, and into those honest, fearless eyes, to see the character of this boy-maWe see the latent power, which when once awakened, is capable of doing almost unbelievable feat of valor; that unafraid look speaks of love oppressed, and tells us that nothing can stop this clear thinking boy from doing the job he has set out to do, once he has made up his mind to do it . Along with his fearlessness, we see in these features his love of home, love of family, affection for his father who has been his ideal, and his worship of his mother who has been his mainstay, his inspiration, his confident, his ideal. His every look seems to say Mother, I will strive to be the man you expect me to be.' Yet this boy was all unconscious of his handsome features, for he was still the un Toiled boy, clean and unaffected, sweet and w holesome, both in mind and body, w hen he had to decide to save his own life by bailing out and perhaps killing many people, or stay with his plane and forfeit his life. May we ever remember theexample he has set for all of us. 0 ! 7 lbs 4oz. and was 20 inches long. Its A Boy!! Its a bounung baby boy for Susan and C urns ttikox of Flowell.
