Pcnni My daughter, Datla Paxton, phoned to Belva and told her she would drive down here Thursday afternoon and spend the night with us. Early Friday morning she would drive back to Salt Lake with me as her passenger in order that I could have time to rest and then attend a banquet Friday evening at which I was to be honored. All Daila knew about the affair was that Dr. Wesley T. Maughan had asked her to write a biography of my life so far and send it to him. The biography was requested some time ago, but 1 was not told about it. Dr. Maughan is the Director in charge of Community Development for the Utah Extension Division of the Utah State University at Logan. Daila said they wanted this affair to be a surprise to me. therefore they did not tell Daila anything, in order that she could not forewarn me. Daila was not told where the banquet was to be nor by whom it was sponsored, until just before she left Salt I ake to get me. My niece, Mcrodean Bunker, came down to Fillmore with Daila in order that she could visit with her sister, Afton Swartz, overnight, since Afton isnot in good health, and members of her family come as often as possible to visit her. is a 1982 graduate Irom Millard High School and has been employed in the I illmore Dental Clinic of Dr. Evan Beckstrand for two years as a Dental Assistant. However, I had that uneasy feeling all of the time, wondering what was going to happen that evening; I kept thinking, Tor what am I When I arrived in Salt Lake, being honored and by whom? Wen, Dailas husband, had the tickets for the Diamond Jubilee Banquet of the Seventy-fift- h Convention of the Utah League of Cities and Towns. I breathed a sigh of relief, since I have spent practically a life time dealing with problems concerning Cities and Towns, and even though I am lame and past my prime, nothing ails my head and I will always be interested in these problems and doing what ever is possible for me to do to solve these problems. The banquet was held in the Grand Ballroom of the elegant, Marriot Hotel, Salt Lakes newest Hotel, and over one thousand people were in attendance, with two orchestras to entertain those in attendance. Past Presidents of the League and their wives were special guests, as well as other past officers of the League. The President of the League read my biography without mentioning my name until the close of the reading, and ended with These accomplishments have been made by Stella Day, 93 years old, but he could have added she will be ninety-fou- r years old next month. I was seated at the table with my family and Dr. Maughan, Jerri W inger. National President of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, who had nominated me for this great honor. Just as I finish this article, Joe Scott came to the door bringing me a big sack of the most delicious and perfectly formed ears of corn you could ever hope to see, all husked and ready to fill the space left in my freezer. Dont you wish you had such wonderful friends as Joan and Joe Stott? Gloria Tomkinson gave me enough cucumbers for my pickle making and Lawrence and Lula Peterson gave me enough washed wheat to make my whole wheat flour for the winter. My nephew, Dwight Huntsman, brings me strawberries, beets, carrots, etc. They don't want me to be discouraged because my garden is such a failure this year. We could buy all ol these goodies but that doesn't make you just sing with the knowledge that you are really loved, when friends will share the fruits of their really hard labor with you. Coming this Saturday, it promises to be a very enjoyable hour of music you will recognize from movies you have seen. The Civic Arts Council has arranged for the Murray Symphony to come. Now, we are really hoping that everyone will come. It is necessary to have the support of the community to finance these programs that are brought here, for ail of us. We are fortunate to have these brought here, so that we needn't go up to Salt Lake or Provo to see this quality of entertainment. Not only is it brought here, it is also offered to us at a much lower cost than what it would cost in the city. If the weather is amenable (and we hope that it is) the concert will be at the amphitheater on Saturday, from 5:00 until 6:00 that evening. It is very casual and you are invited to bring a blanket and lay on the lawn or bring a chair if youd rather sit up that way. The cost of the tickets can be reduced by half if you purchase them before the concert at Ben Franklin, First Security Bank, Pioneer Market, or Christensens. Purchased at one of these tickets the businesses, are $5.00 for the family, $2.00 for an adult and $1.00 for a child. If you purchase your tickets at the gate, it Ms'iul gills. FILLMORE .11 .
