EDITOR Susan B. Dutson FILLMORE Marge Barton by STELLA DAY If I Were a Rich Man," however it is not riches we need, but good common sense, along with the deter mination to honestly work for a living. By that we mean to put into our work the very best efforts it is possible for us to give. America constantly becomes richer, the standard of living becomes higher each year, but are the people happier and more contented? The perof frustrated centage people, the mentally disturbed, together with the drug addicts, alcoholics, hippies and lost souls is constantly increasing. Why? In my opinion all of this discontent is caused from not having a real purpose in life or real difficulties to overcome. Man has to meet a challenge and to be able to overcome hardship. He needs the inhative and enthusiasm which is required to test his own ability to solve difficult problems. It seems the everyday trend of today is to try to make it easy for everyone, in our effort to prove that all men are created equal. What we really to should be striving accomplish is to provide to opportunity equal with talents the develop which each of us is blessed, for certainly each of us is not how many talents each possesses, but to what use we put those talents. In providing an opportunity for each of us to improve our native abilities, we should also be given the opportunity to earn our own living, since work habits are just as essential to our future happiness as is getting a formal education. Only the things for which we work, really earn, are worth having, or are fully appreciated. Then too, earning a living, knowing we are capable of being self sufficient gives us a and certain dignity courage, a self confidence, all of which are necessary for a successful career. Each of us has special talents, but what benefit will be derived from them unless we do our best to develop them? The more we diligently work at the We sing of these developing natural abilities, the more perfected they become. Some people will not share their talents by trying to teach others how to become better in doing the thing this talented person does so well; but unless we try to teach others to improve on their talents, there would never be any progress in any of the profession in this life. Sometimes we get into jobs in which we have no special talent. If we keep at it we become able to do it, but we would do a much better job if we had more talent. For instance this is the time of year for reports from most projects which the different groups enter. For years now I have been Civic Chairman Improvement for different organizations. I am not artistic and could make a much better scrapbook if I had artistic more ability. However, I do have a love for Civic Improvement, or any type of improvement which will improve the quality of every day living; thus, I try to do my best at my job, even though I know some people could do a much better scrapbook. We have many very talented people in Our Town, but aH of them are not public spirited. Wouldnt it be wonderful if every person would do the job he is fitted to do?
