A resolution committing the American Legion to become involved in exerting pressure to obtain a full accounting of the 2,500 Americans left behind when the United States withdrew from Vietnam was passed a year ago at the Legions National Convention. Since that time the American Legion has had several programs to implement this our missing servicemen. We can make a difference in moving toward a full POWM1A accounting, says George Anderson, Department Vice Commander, by getting as many people as possible to send the following information to Hanoi: 1. Normalization of United relations depends on the Vietnam Government returning our POWMIAs or hilly cooperating in an acceptable accounting of all POWMIAs. 2. The American people, who ultimately determine United States policy, will not permit the U.S. Government to normalize relations until aO POWMIAs are returned or States-Vietna- resolution, including last summers Wear a Red Ribbon for our MIAs. The special committee, formed to implement this resolution, met during the recent Washington Conference and has decided to emphasize the Write Hanoi Campaign and to expand the national public awareness of their efforts to obtain an accounting of such an accounting has been completed. District Commander Clayton Barton and American Legion Post 61 Commander West Barton urges every civic minded resident to Write Hanoi and express their determination for a full accounting of our men. Mayor Doris Rasmussen said this action by the American Legion has her full support. Governor Scott Matheson has declared the week from July 4 through July 9 as POW MIA Recognition Week in Utah. Two Solar and Wind Powered Systems Economically Feasible Onsite solar energy systems are technically feasible for pumping water to irrigate farm crops, the Economic Research Service Division of the U.S. Dept, of Agriculture said recently. However, out of five direct solar and wind powered irrigation systems studied, only two may be economically feasible before the turn of the century. The two systems that appear capable of economically producing significant energy by 2000 are: fossil fuel is difficult and costly, and where adequate wind is available. It is important, the Department said, to find technically and economically feasible ways of using solar energy for irrigation pumping for two primary reasons: Irrigation pumping uses large quantities of energy currently provided by nonrenewable fossil fuels. Solar energy is particularly compatible with irrigation. The maximum need for irrigation occurs at times, and in locations, of maximum solar radiation (insolation), such as during summers in the Southwestern United States. Conversely, less water evaporates from crops and land during periods of lower insolation - when solar energy would be less available for powering irrigation systems. Enochian at (415) Forest Service to manage Fires Last year was the first year the Fillmore Ranger District participated in a new Fire Management Policy of managing certain natural occuring fires for the benefit of the land and wildlife. Mother nature, prior to the 1900's, controlled the spread of sagebrush, mountain brushes and juniper trees by occasionally burning them. Since that time, a vigorous effort has been made to put out all firet. This fire suppression policy, along with grazing, has allowed the sagebrush, mountain brushes, and juniper trees to crowd out the grasses and broadleaf plants that cattle and wildlife need for a balanced diet. To reverse this process, the Forest Service will agsin manage natural occurring fires until about mid July when the Forest Service will revert back to its policy of putting out all fires. Fires that are allowed to burn will be checked frequently by a monitoring team that will evaluate the burning conditions to see if the fire will be allowed to burn. The ares that fires will be allowed to burn in are: The Oak City range of mountains, all land north and east of the Joseph Town road and all of the National Forest area north of Chalk Creek. The Forest Service enooursges all citizens to continue to be diligent in repotting all fires so that the evaluation team can decide which fires will be beneficial to let burn and which fires should be put out. The police chief also said there will be heavy enforcement on making proper on Main Street in the future and cautioned motorists to note that the center turn lane on Main Street is not to be used for parking while loading or unloading either passengers or cargo. Edwards said additionally that proper at the Post Office would backing and be enforced.
