Show I Fillmore Highlights By Angie Glee J: Don and Ella Vee Turner had early Thanksgiving guests. Their daughter, Regina, her husband, Mark Hanson, and their son, Mathew, came from Idaho Falls on Friday, Nov. 12, and Lan Turner took some time away from the Salt Lake Tech College to join the family for a pheasant hunt and a Thanksgiving dinner. Regina and Mark may move to St. Anthony, Idaho, so they took this time to rush the holiday and enjoy the good things. On Nov. 7, Frank and Maxine Herdman had the pleasure of welcoming into their home Maxines aunt and uncle, Mildred and Sid Hevelone of Beaver Lake, Royers, Arkansas. They all enjoyed a four day visit before the Hevelones continued their journey to North Ridge, Cal. where they will spend the winter with their daughter. To complete the family picture, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Herdman and two children of Provo came on Nov. 6 and stayed a couple of days enjoying visiting with their aunt and uncle, the unusually warm sun, and of course, moms cooking. On Nov. 13 Lee and Diana Day entertained Lees family members at an early Thanksgiving dinner. They were: Lees father, Newell, and his wife, Lucy Day, of Manti; his sister, Carolyn, and her husband, Clair Blackburn, and their three children of Idaho Falls; his brother-in-laVaughn Blackburn, and two of his children of Salt Lake; and his brother, Dwight, and his wife, JoAnn, and five children of Fillmore. Carolyn and Clair were moving to Las Vegas, so on their way they stopped at the for a visit and to enjoy a Days Thanksgiving dinner with the family. Most of Lees family came on Saturday, Nov. 13, staying through Sunday so they could go to church. Over the weekend Merrill and Merle Hones children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren gathered at the Hones for some good times which included early holiday feasting and pheasant hunting. Those coming from near and far were: Ron and Bonnie Hone of Los Altos Hills, Calif.; Jim and Ronda McQuade and their three children of Sacramento, Calif.; Walt and Stephanie Sledzieski and son of Boise, Idaho; Laura Hone of Denver, Colo.; Chris Hone of Cedar City; and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hone and family of Fillmore. The First Ward Relief Society Fall Social and Dinner was held at the Fillmore First Ward Cultural Hall on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. A delicious Thanksgiving type dinner was served on tables beautifully decorated to accent the autumn season. A Grateful The program entitled accentuated the blessings of Woman womanhood in song, readings, and prose, and a stage setting where each woman and couple who portrayed a different phase of womanhood were dressed in pure white. The women wore long white gowns and the men white suits. It was very impressive and beautifully done. brother, Russell Loye Thompsons Justesen, of Orangeville (Emery County) is spending some time at the LDS Hospital in SLC recovering from hip replacement surgery. Loye is happy to report that he is gettingalongfine. Max and Verna Nichols daughter, Robin, and her husband, Paul Austin, and their daughter, Steffany, and son, Jarrett, all of Magna came on Nov. 2 and enjoyed a two day visit with the Nichols, their daughter, Tena, and also visited Laura Colegrove Mantle. The Austin family made this an early holiday visit because they couldnt come on Thanksgiving, so Verna did it up right by cooking a big turkey and all the trimmings. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my very dear friends and relatives who have shared their family with Fillmore the happenings" Highlights column through this year of 1982. And from Fillmore, wish I could thank each of you personally, but your numbers are far too many. I would like to express my appreciation of all those who took the time to call or to write their news items and bring them to me or drop them in the mail. You really made my day something to sing about, but you are all appreciated and I do thank each and everyone of your for the time you have given me in our telephone conversations. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Mitchell and children of Richfield and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Stott and daughter of Salt Lake were visitors at the home of their parents, Benand Laurel Stott. Mr. Dean Roberts of Provo brought his grandmother, Mrs. Zina Stott of Fillmore to visit and attend church here on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Benner Carling of Pleasant Grove hunted with their son DeLyle and his boys. Hunting with Shan Carling and Roy Stewart were friends from Salt Lake. Ken KarmonandJim Hunsaker. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Freeman have their nephew, Frank Freeman, visiting with them. Frank lives in Missouri. Mrs. Della Madsen and Mae Labrum returned home from a nice visit in California. The twosome have spent some time at the home of Dellas daughter and Hilda and Bob Hammond and enjoyed the grandchildren. Visiting at the home of Mr. Arland Beckstrand in Fillmore was his son. Kent Bcckstrand of California. Kent also visited at the home of his brother Jack in Meadow The Ralph Duncans are having some improvements done around their home. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Williams are installing new fences and landscaping their property. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stewart have been visiting with their daughters in Las Vegas. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Roberts of Los Altos Hills, California and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Schmutz of Bountiful have been visiting and cleaning up around their parents old home and enjoying the deer hunt . Delmar Reay of Pleasant Grove and Vaughn Reay of Orem visited with relatives and friendsthe past week. The Meadow Ward Primary held a Halloween party Friday evening, October 29 in the cultural hall. A fun time was enjoyed by all. The rain didnt seem to dampen the spirits of our young folks on Saturday night. Rain soaked and muddy, they accomplished their trick and treating. Some of our grownups also joined in the festivities. Sue Stewart and Cathy Burns were dressed as Sue and taking pies to our elderly and shut-inCathy always go that extra mile to make people a little happier. Visitors at the home of Gordon and Francis Hall were their daughter, Julie Findley, her husband and children from Orem and Gena and her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Bushnell from Kanab have been visiting at the home of his mother, Mrs. Lenna Bushnell. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Gagon spent a few days visiting with their children in West Valley City. Norma spent some time in the city shopping and preparing material for the Meadow Ward Choir. The group will be getting ready for the Christmas programs. Visitors at the homeof Mrs. Luella Edwards for the deer hunt were her daughter, Mrs. Jerry Lue Tafoya, her husband Manuel, son Jerry Dean and granddaughter Amanda of . super-witches. West Valley City. Visitors at the home of ValDean and Deanna Edwards were their son Kelly, who is attending Snow College in Ephraim, their daughter Wendy and her friends, Bonnie Bradshaw and Brian Dooley of St. George. The trio are attending Dixie College. On Sunday the Edwards celebrated Val Deans birthday with a family and a delicious birthday dinner at his home. Jody Christensen was also a guest at the Edwards home. Mrs. Flora Stewart spent the past week visiting at the home of her daughter and Jane and Larry Black in Richfield. We would like to add our congrat ulations to the M HS Football team and their coaches on their taking State again this year. A large well as following of fans from here as former alumni were on hand to cheer the team to victory. As the final gun sounded and the team was rejoicing and ready to join their coaches and student body. I saw Gary Monsen leave the group and run back to shake the hand of Kerry Prince. They exchanged conversation and then Gary as they placed his hand on Princes shoulder walked to the middle of the field for the the trophy presentation. Mr. and Mrs. Delial Ivies have had a number of visitors recently which certainly is pleasant and cheers Delial very much. Their friend LaDawn Allen of Cedar City called on them when she was visiting her parents and family, Arthur and Beth Allen. Williams Allen of Virgies nephew, Fillmore, Glen Williams, another nephew, brought his mother, Mrs. Elda Williams, and uncle, Loyd Williams from Ncphi, to spend an evening. The next day, Nov. 5, Clayton Williams came to visit his sister, Virgie, and Delial. He brought their friend, Lucille Overson of Lynndyl, with him. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Higley, Aaron, Jessica, Benjiman and Nathan arrived in time to visit Uncle Clayton and Lucille before the latter two departed for their homes. The Higleys returned to their home in Sandy on Sunday. Mrs. Ruth Allen went to Orem Nov. 7 with her grandson, Kenneth Hurd. He had spent the weekend with grandma while pheasant hunting. She spent the week with her daughter, Clarice, and family, the Royal Hurds. She returned home Nov. 13 with her daughter-in-laLynn Allen, and children who had been to SLC to attend the marriage of their niece and cousin that day. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Robinson took his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Robinson, to SLC Nov. 8 for Joe to keep an appointment w ith his doctor and also to visit his sister and brother-in-laLouise ana Sam Neff, and Joe's and Paulines daughter, Betty, and husband, Bruce Niblcy. 1 husband, Roger, and their son, Darrin, from Ely, Nev. On Nov. , Iris Bond, Dathel Whitaker, Geraldine Kimball, and Carma Cutler gathered at the home of another sister, Leora Allens, in Richfield to honor their mother on her 88th birthday. Leora's lovely home was all decked out with Happy Birthday banners, colorful balloons and a beautiful birthday cake. Geraldine's husband, Franklin, joined the group to help celebrate. They all enjoyed a delicious birthday dinner together. felt that they had They really accomplished something special during the weekend, the life story of their mother, Juanita Charlesworth was completed, with her there to add to, and make the necessary corrections. This was a project they had been working on at each of their mothers birthdays forlwoorthree years. It was then typed up and is ready to have copies ran off for family members. To add to the enjoyment of the ocassion, melodies such as: beautiful, "Memories, "Mv Wild Irish Rose, and others, were played, with Geralding at the pianoand Irison the electric organ. is a day these sisters look forward Nov. to each year, to spend it all together with their lov ely mother. Saturday, Nov. 13, was a happy day to Miss Claudecn Hendrickson and Mr. Kelly C. Sutherland who were joined together as husband and wife, by Bishop David Christensen at 5 p.m. at the Kanosh Ward Church. Besides many relatives and friends in attendance at the wedding, Claudcen was especially thankful to have seven brothers and sisters there. It was the first time since York Shields graduated from high school (I I years) that he had been with the family when they were together for a wedding. Mac and Roena were happy too, to have all 2 grandchildren present. The reception following that evening was a lovely affair, with many attending. Other special family members present were Roenas mother and Claudeens Helen LaMar and grandparents, Hendrickson. The newlyweds drove to Salt Fake City after the reception. They boarded a plane on Sunday, which flew them to Hawaii for their 2 day honeymoon. They will be making their home in Salt Lake City on their return. On Saturday, Nov. 13, the family members of Sister Velda and Elder George Bchunin gathered at American Fork, where they held a Welcome Home party and dinner for them. There were 73 present. Sacrament meeting and Missionary home coming for Elder and Sister Bchunin on Sunday, was conducted by Counselor Cleve Christensen. Sister Edith Cummings presented Sister Arts Bchunin and her PhD Celestial Degree and encouraged the sisters to complete their Upward Reach goals for Grant and Arleen's sons. Kit and Kirk, were at their places of employment, but they visited the boys wives, Colleen and Sherry, and the children. We are happy Joe's doctor reports Joe's hip is doing well following surgery some time ago. as a Spending the weekend of Nov. his and her of friend, Tony Utley, guest parents, Clem and Lora Utley, was Ebby Noyes of Layton. She also accompanied the Utleys to the funeral services Nov. 4 for their little granddaughter and niece, Ashley Madlyn Benson, at Provo. Also attending the services was Celeste Rasmussen Lott and Janice Neilson Hecht of Provo, friends of Tami Utley Benson, all former Flowell 7 residents. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tomkinson and little girl of Rockland, Idaho came to spend Nov. 5 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melville Tomkinson. It had been some time since Fred and Margene had been able to visit in person with their parents, although they keep in touch by telephone. So Melville and Nona really enjoyed the short, but sweet visit. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Swallow took Mr. and Mrs. Paul Christensen with them Nov. to enjoy the beautiful day at the Provo Temple. The next day, Nov. 12, the Swallows went to the Jordan River Temple to join members of Peggys family for a session and be present at the marriage in the Tern pie of her nephew, Rodney Oilcott, and his bride, Charlene Olson from Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Allen have two of old-tim- e their grandchildnre, Sandra and Troy Inlay of Evanston, Wyo.-- spending a week here while their paretns, Jerry and Louise Imlay and his parents, Glen and Colleen Imlay, are on a weeks vacation in Hawaii. Kent Swallow conducted Bishop Sacrament Meeting 14. Nov. The invocation was offered by Clark Christensen. Joel Harpers name was presented for a sustaining vote to be ordained to the office of a Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood. He is the son of Mr. , s and Mrs. Eugene Harper. Lonnie Anderson, youth speaker gave a fine talk on Faith. Peggy Swallow and husband. Bishop Kent, each gave a short talk. The remainder of the lime was taken by Elder Floyd Parker, recently returned from the Dakota - Rapid City Mission of the LDS Church where he spent two years. Two of Floyd's sisters and a brother were here for meeting, as were two missionary companions and a number of out of town friends. Peggy Swallows parents, Mr. and Mrs. Divetl Hansen of Glenwood, were also here for this special occasion. The Swallows served a lovely dinner to Floyd, his family and other guests. It was a pleasant weekend for Mr. and Mrs. Delial lvie. On Thursday, Nov. 4, their nephew, Glen Williams, brought his mother, Mrs. Elda Williams, and his uncle, Loyd Williams of Nephi, to spend a few hours. The next day Clayton Williams also of Nephi and Mrs. Lucille Overson of Lynndyl came to spend the afternoon. The Lisa and Ivies daughter and Jack Higley, and four children arrived in lime to visit Uncle Clayton and Lucille. The Higleys returned to their home in Sandy Sunday evening. They helped their parents and grandparents with several chores inside and out of the house. Delial and Virgie lvie enjoyed having their young friend, LaDawn Allen, call on them during the Halloween weekend. On Oct. 31 their nephew, Allen Williams, came to visit. Delial was pleased to hear Allen tell of his pleasant deer hunt with his father, Clayton Williams, and other relatives. Paul Christensen took his neighbors, Rex Allen and Garn Turner, to the Provo Temple where they spent a pleasant day. Rexs nephew, Terry Hurd, accompanied the group to Flowell, where he was a guest of his grandmother, Ruth Allen, for a couple of days. He returned to his home in Orem with his aunt, Lynn Allen, and her children. LaDawn Allen came from her home in Cedar City to spend the weekend of Oct. 29 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Allen, and sisters, Sheri and Marlene, and the latter's husband, Kevin Christensen, and their chilren, Curtis, Casey, and Angela. Aunt LaDawn enjoyed taking her little on nephews and niece "trick or treating Halloween. David Allen and his wife, Vicky, and little Kyle of Fillmore enjoyed visiting his sister, La Dawn. LaDawn Allen was here for the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Allen, and sister, Sheri. The Allens always enjoy each others company and have a great time when they get together. Marlene and Kevin Christensen and children, and David, Vicky, and Kyle of Fillmore visited their sister, LaDawn, before she returned to Cedar City. Visiting Delial and Virgie lvie Saturday was their young friend, LaDawn Allen. On Sunday, Virgies nephew, Allen Williams, called to see his aunt and Uncle Delial. So nice to be remembered by these busy people. On Oct. 28th Paul Christensen took Rex Allen and Garn Turner with him to spend the day at the Provo Temple. Rexs nephew, T erry Hurd, of Orem came to Flowell with Garn. He was a guest of his grandmother, Ruth Allen, Friday evening to Saturday morning when he accompanied Aunt Lynn Allen and family to Orem where they enjoyed a few hours shopping. Ruthmary Brower enjoyed very much having her sister, Shirley Dobson, of Spanish Fork come to spend the day Oct . 28th. On Oct 29th, Shirley spent the day with another sister , Peggy Robison. High School Leadership Conference Held On Weekend High school leaders from throughout the state will visit Southern Utah State College Friday and Saturday for a fall leadership conference. The conference is being held early in the school year so that the skills learned at SUSC can be taken back and used by the students at their respective schools," Kevin Millecam, conference director, said. Sponsored by the SUSC Office of Admissions, the conference will begin Friday at 2 p.m. with registration in the SUSC Student Center. Before leaving campus early Sunday, participants will have s attended several seminars, taken a a attended college campus tour, dance and a performance of the production A Midsummer Nights Dream."
