(pt VOLUME 26 ISSUE 31 August 3 2004 PO Box 609 Delta UT 84624 Newsstand Copy 25 Cents Tana Mpers Takes First Place in Utah High School Rodeo Finals testants from the United States Hawaii 5 Canadian and Australia Providence’s No wonder it is called the Worlds' Largest Rodeo with that many students horses parents grandparents and family half of them living on the sight There are 13 performances in 7 days Tana is the granddaughter of Sherril and Joyce Tolbert and Mitch and Joan Myers She rodeos out of the Ogden based Spikers Club We are very proud of her hard work and time she puts into all she does Tana would like to thank the team ropers who participated in the fund raising and all her friends and family who helped with donations for expenses ‘Ride For Life’ Poker Run Takes Off on Saturday Aug 7 Morgan High student Tana Myers took 1st place in both pole bending and barrels at the Utah High School Rodeo Finals in Heber City last month earning a spot on the Utah National Team (top 4 boys and girls in each event) The National Championships were held in Gillette Wyoming 5 July Tana placed 2nd in the 2nd performance (30 plus girls in Sixteen-year-ol- d each performance) on barrels but missed the average for the short go She took a 2nd and a 1st in her 2 performances in pole bending qualifying her for 12th of the top 20 going into the short or championship round She placed 4th in the Short Go which gave her a 6th place National Finish in Pole Bending and a 9th in the girl’s spot There were nearly 1600 con- - After months of planning and preparing the Ride for Life Poker Run scheduled for this Saturday August 7 is about be become a reality Organizers are excited about the great response to this year’s ride A large number of riders have so far including riders from all over the state of Utah as well as from out of state Riders will gather at the North Park Pavilion at Main and 5th North to register pick up their gift packets buy extra poker cards and have any questions answered that they may have Riders who are not familiar with the area and who may want some assistance finding their way will want local riders nearby to help out Sand Rock RidgeRiders ATV Club mem- bers are asked to attend to help out with this A fun new addition this year will be Family ATV Portraits at the North Park while the groups of riders are still clean (not trail dusty) Proceeds from this will also go to the cancer research fund Following the trail should be easy Florescent orange signs will be attached to the new ATV Route signs as well as to other locations to help the riders around the Fillmore Loop Additionally points of interest signs for other great extend a special thank you to all business who have helped out with prizes It has been an amazing thing to see how generous people are when it comes to a great cause HUNTSMAN CANCER INSTITUTE Men’s Potty Punch” not only for the age of the men punching the cards but also for the facilities located there This is just south of White Pine Junction The next punch stop is at Bear Hollow Corral west of the Chalk Creek Junction and the fourth stop will be at Pistol Rock Campground A delicious roast beef dinner with all of the trimmings will be held after the last poker punch at the Guard Armory from 2- -4 Following that will be the presentation of poker hand prizes as well as a short auction and a pm auction prizes We would like to will provide interesting information about the area The first poker punch will be done at the registration table at the North Park The second stop is affectionately known as the “Old National silent The events of the day are by Lion’s the Fillmore Club the Committee of Hope and the Sand Rock RidgeRiders ATV Club The day promises to be a great ride in beautiful scenery with a delicious dinner at the end More than that it is a great opportunity to help out a worthy cause with all of the proceeds going to the Huntsman Cancer Research Center There are few who can say that cancer has not touched their lives either through personal experience or through the experience of close family members or friends It is a great feeling to help do our part to find a cure for this disease |
