left place to right: Josh Knudsen-firs- t place and Allen d Schools to Careers assembly 9 & 10 eighth grade students school to careers assembly business provided speakers to tell about their particular job Speakers were: Science from Brush from Millard Sabey ArtsRecreation Dutson Social' County Chronicle-SuHumanitarian from Work Force Ciarus (Regional Interv iew IPSP Assistant Superintendent of Hawk Business from Zion's Archibald (Branch Manager) and Marketing from Sahara Greathouce Speakers described their job and the duties it entailed They told students On Feb attended a Six local what they liked about their jobs most They also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the job high school classes that w ould help in their job and further education (degrees licensing or training required) Speakers were introduced by Marianne Obom District work based Learning Specialist Attending also Counwere Lloyd Counseselor and Liesl lor Students had an opportunity to ask question of guest speakers This was an excellent opportunity for students to learn of careers as in our area and to begin thinking of the career of their choice Recreation Report The Visitor Center is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm PST and cave tours are being offered at 1:30-:00pm seven days a week The recent storms have brought of badly needed fresh snow to the upper elevations of Great Basin National Park improving conditions for winter recreation Low er Lehman Campground remains open though campers should be prepared for cold temperatures and snow" Overnight lows have been in the teens daytime highs have averaged in the but conditions can change rapidly Drinking water is available at the Visitor Center The trailer dump station has been closed for the winter At 10000 feet the recent snow rests on a 7 base that fell before Christmas At the Visitor Center there is approximately six inches of fresh snow How long it remains is dependent on temperatures wind conditions and further snowfalls Conditions for winter recreation are currently good The backcounlry and alpine areas of Great Basin National Park do not close for the w inter but are remote and little used Be prepared for and adverse wintertime conditions so good Trails may be indistinct orienteering skills are a must Primitive camping is permitted at Wheeler Peak Campground throughout the winter though access is by foot only It makes an ideal base camp for those interested in overnight trips snow shoeing skiing or ski mountaineering Only experienced mountaineers with the proper equipment should attempt Wheeler Peak and the other summits Registration at the Visitor Center is recommended Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive is closed beyond the Upper Lehman Campground and will not reopen until spring Baker Creek Road is closed Check at the visitor center for other road conditions The operation of snowmobiles is not permitted within the national park For more information or a Great Basin National Park information packet call POOR C |
