As a parent you have your child's safety foremost in mind AIVs are not toys We all know that serious injury can result from improper use of an ATV Your child's safety will depend on you as a parent taking a ‘safety first” approach to ATV riding at all times The first important safety decision a parent must make concerning their child and an ATV is whether or not the child is ready to ride Age is an important consideration The ATV Safety Institute recommends the following regarding engine size and age: ATV Size: Under 70cc 6 yean and 12 yean and older Over older 90cc 16 yean and older Never let a youngster ride an ATV that is not recommended for their age group Even though a child is of the recommended age to ride a particular size ATV not all youngsters have the strength skills are judgement needed to operate an ATV Parents should supervise their children’s operation of the ATV at all times and should permit continued use of the ATV only if they determine that their child has the ability and judgement to operate the ATV safely Physical size and ability are To help deterimportant considerations mine if your child is big enough for a particular ATV have them stand up on the footrests and grasp the hand grips While the child holds this position check that they have at least three inches of clearance between the ATV seat and the child's seat Also make sure your child can comfortably reach and work all the controls For example can they turn the handlebars all the way to the left and right? Can they easily use their feet to work the brake pedal and gearshift lever? Can they operate the throttle and brake levers while they bold onto the hand grips? If not your child may not be able to maintain balance and control and is not physically ready to ride this ATV Generally speaking your child should be good at riding a bicycle before they get on an ATV Anyone who does not have good coordination balance and agility is not ready to ride an ATV Taking an ATV training course is a must for all family members yes even parents And remember always wearing a helmet while on an ATV should be a family rule that is never compromised 10 1?S8 Document With Accuracy your car outlive its engine?
