membership of the Fillmore Area Chamber of Commerce elected new officers last Wednesday January 4 at the chamber's regular monthly meeting Dva Richman defeated Lisa Waters for the presidency Wavne Jackson is the new vice president He dcfcaied Paul Burgess The new secretary is Paula Jackson who replaces outgoing secretary Waters Richman said she will need every member of the chamber to help the newly elected officers especially Wair h vmi' the needs of Fillmore resident so businesses can pros ide w anted sere ices and items She also said she wants to sec 95 percent of businesses in Fillmore become chamber members in the coming year Involvement among chamber members is another key issue Riehman told chamber members on Wednesday that she would like to see them become more involved w ith money matters She also suggested that members might w ant to attend spec lal mceungs out of town which show bucinecs owners and employees proper ways to deal with customers and pros ide sere ice Before the ballot election each candidate was given two minutes to share his or her v icw s and goals for the chamber Jackson and Burgess both said they would appreciate the opportunity to serve as ice president but did not give any speeches Jackson said as secretary she is willing to help with whatever needs to be done m the chamber Linda Blodgett who w as nominated for secretary last month declined thcnormnation Waters who has reportedly put a lot of w ork into the chamber the past car as secretary told chamber members that ho she has discovered many members w ant to be more involv cd m the chamber She said she secs a need for a new Fillmore post card and wants to see outlying towns become involved with the Fillmore Area Chamber of Commerce Waters has served as chamber secretary for There is a large and diverse range of people volved in the Fillmore chamber according to Fisher Fisher said training and additional resources and services are important to businesses in a community He said that most of the time if people can't find w hat they w ant in a community they w ill shop out of town for the item and end up purchasing every thing they need there Looking for w ays to keep business in Fillmore was stressed by Fisher who suggested that business owners might consider setting aside a small amount of each sale to go to a community project Fisher said this may give customers
