This month I interviewed three dies for you to read about Wednesday August 10 at this years Millard County Fair is going to be activity day for So I thought it would be appropriate to interview Nan Bunkcr4-- Agent a huge undertaking by the way who said when asked to head this program “I’m your man and I’ll do it” And interviewed along with Nan arc Ann Parkinson Home Economist USU Extension Agent for Millard County in which part of her job description is involvement with the programs and Glenda Quamberg the office Girl Friday Nan Bunker Nan Bunker has been on the Fair Board as Agent for the last 3 12 years starting in 1991 She says what started as a job quickly turned into full time But she also quick to say she loves her job And your can certainly see the enthusiasm in her face Nan would like to see all kids enrolled in there arc so many programs and activities that the kids can choose from that if they would take a “look sec” they would be hooked A couple of weeks ago hpld a clothing camp or workshop in which 5 groups of girls served and fashioned their handiwork The program was a huge success At the fair this year on Wednesday afternoon 4 H will have “Decorate Y our Duds" entries by June 15 or call Nan Junior Talent Show Senior Day with more 4 H contests to be announced later The horse show will also be held that day Just a small part of Nan’s duties lay with the Fair she’s involved year round with workshop and programs camp pressive arts camps senior contest (which horseshows is the teenage group) teenage councils to attend and introducing this year Special Needs Club for more information on that call Sandy or Rayetta Jackie So you can sec Nan is totally committed to her job An expert in her field with well over 600 hundred kids is the she fccls4-involved in answer to all kids looking for participaand pride Nan tion growth asks if there are any of you would like to become or leaders she would certainly welcome you Nan has also judged at other county fair for several years She and her husband Clyde and children live in Sutherland She is this years president of the County Farm Bureau (probably first woman ever) Nan Bunker believes in the motto fully "To Make the Best Belter" a good motto to strive for! Ann Parkinson Ann Parkinson is our Home Economist Agent for Millard County She came to us from Richmond Utah Cache County where she was also Home In 1991 when Economist there Margene Rowley retired and Ann transferred to Millard County lucky us She of is one the nicest people I’ve met Ann has a Masters in Family and Human Development Her involvement with the fair includes presiding over the booth along with Nan and Glenda also providing Millard County qualified judges to judge other county fairs along with seeing that judges are sent here There arc judge training workshops that are offered and she sends of letter to judges involved Ann has been on the Fair Board since 1991 Her other duties as Home Economist include writing a column for the Millard County Extension News called The County Agent “The Open Door" She gives updates on what’s happening for the month She also heads learning programs such as ProWoman Financial Information grams Slim For Life affiliated with the American Heart Association Canning Workshops Neighborhood Care Project Training for Child Care Providing Parenting Programs Window Treatment Dressing for Less and Sex Education Programs Ann is also responsible for the many grants the county receives because applying for these grants and receiving them for programs needed is her way of saying thank you for Millard County’s hospitality toward her I never knew did you? This is a busy woman Glenda Quarnherg Ahh and speaking of busy women here we have Glenda Quamberg She is your Girl Friday Jack of All Trades the one who can balance it all together She has been administrative assistant for the County Agent for 6 years now You know how when you go in some execuruns tives office and everything smoothly and there is usually one person really responsible for that well that’s Glenda She makes sure everyone has what they needs takes care of the exhibit cards makes copies for everyone and she’s in charge of putting the Millard County Extension News to bed which is laying the format out getting it copied stapled and addressed wd out to the readers on time She has at least 4 people she has to answer to but she’s much more than a “gopher” at work Mon Wed and Fri she’s here in Delta Fillmore as do Nan and TucsandThurs Ann Glenda is also involved with the booth during programs and is at the the Millard County Fair Days Glenda is a Fair Judge judging foods and crafts She lives in Scipio with her husband and 2 kids To drive that far is dedication And that’s what it’s all about kids dedication and experience and pride it their jobs and applying it so that we Millard County people can have the best of all experiences and memories volved with the 1994 Millard County Fair this year “To make the best better" yeah I would say it appl ies because after all we’ll be “Riding High at the 1994 Millard County Fair” Millard Countv Chronicle Progress June Wynn Walker Earns Award Wynn Walker Former Sutherland resident Wynn Walker PhD received the D Wynne Thome Research Award for his work in irrigation engineering recently Wynn a 1964graduateofDclta High School is a professor at Utah Stale University in Logan He is currently the Department Head of Biological and Irrigation Engineering He has an international reputation as an expert in irrigation engineering TheAwardread“From 1980tol984 Dr Walker led a team at USU in the development of solutions to the complete set of hydrodynamic equations describing surface irrigation The implications of this breakthrough were critical to the development of “Surge Flow" a technology developed at USU that is now a major water conservation methodology "Beginning in 1984 Dr Walker undertook an even larger research program on “main system management” of irrigation systems using the theoretical models developed earlier for surface irrigation Dr Walker has been instrumental in applying this technology to water projects all over the world One example was the Lam Nam Oon Irrigation Project in Northeast Thailand where Dr Walker’s improved technology was first applied and won an award as the best irrigation project in an area which has hundreds of irrigation projects More recently the technology has been applied in Bolivia and Egypt “Though the USU department is know internationally as perhaps the best in the world in irrigation Dr Walker and the faculty of the department have recently undertaken the challenging task of broadening the department's research and leaching mission "Before 1993 the department was R 1994 Page 3 judicial vacancy the Agricultural and Irrigation EngDr Under Department ineering direction Walker's the department changed its name and emphasis to Bioclude llie rapidly growing area of logical Engineering and developed liaisons among six departments on campus It can be seen that Dr Walker's research exjrcncnce and leadership will benefit many people for years to come" Dr Walker was inducted into the Della High Academic Hall of Fame in its first year of existence He has written numerous articles presented papers and written textbooks and has directed graduate student programs since 1975 The research grants he has been awarded total over $1 million He was instrumental in installing a control system for the compuicricd canal out of the DMAD Reservoir and for writing the computer software that programs the system He regarded that to be one of the most difficult professional problems he has faced He is the son of Roger and Erma Walker of Sutherland Millard 23 Applications arc now being accepted for the position of judge of the Third District Court This position results from the retirement of Judge John A Rokich from the Third District Court The Third District Court and the Third Circuit Court will consolidate between 1996 and 1998 unless allowed earlier by legislation In order to complete the judicial business of the circuit court during die transition to a consolidated district court the person appointed to this position will primarily execute the duties of a circuit judge between the date of appointment and the consolidation of the courts Upon the consolidation of the courts the judge w ill assume the duties
