will ask the caller to using the 801 area code The new dialing plan will also require that the area code be included when dialing calls such as calls The inclusion of the 801 area code docs not change the rates for these calls The new plan affects all Utah teleAs Utah’s largest phone companies local telephone company U S WEST has the responsibility to administer number plans within the 801 area code Customers using automated dialing equipment or services such as computer modems fax machines speed dialing call forwarding and alarm systems will need to any in state long distance numbers to include lhc801 area code Customers are encouraged to do their as soon as possible Emergency calls to 911 directory calls to plus 411 local calls and long distance calls to other area ctxles will not be affected by the new dialing plan “The easiest way to remember the 3 change is to remember that whenever you dial a "1" or “0" to place any long distance call you'll also need to dial an Utah's” telephone al prefix codes and area codes In order to accommodate the future growth of area codes all carriers within the plan area must be capable of routing calls with interchangeable area and prefix codes Present area codes have a 0 or as the middle digit Any new area ctxles will include the digits 2 through 9 as the second digit Private telephone systems used primarily by larger businesses must also be prepared to handle interchangeable area codes and prefixes by 1995 Utah will be implementing the new dialing plan at the same time as three other stales in U S WEST’S Mexico South Dakota and Iowa Ariona Oregon and Washington slate’s 206 area ctxle have already made the change Idaho and Colorado will convert on February 28 The remaining rive U S WEST stales and Washington state’s 509 area
