Men were the first ones to wear high heels nylons perfumes and skirls Women once w anted to look pregnant and the ideal woman w as short and fat! These are only a few of the things the DHS student body and faculty learned last Thursday May 3th Fred Adams director of the Shakespeare Festival at SUU brought 2 students to Delta to put on a program from costumes the different time alut periods in Shakespeare play s Mr Adams is founder and executive producer of the Utah Shakespearean Festival now in its 30th season He is a founding board member of the National Theatre AssociaUruversityResident tion Mr Adams served as president of the Utah Theatre Association He re ceivcd both his MA and BA at BYU Fred Adams has been awarded the DisAlumni from Award BYU tinguished Utah’s Governor's Trophy for excellence Tounsm Hall of Fame Friends of Utah Award Academy of Sciences Service Award Mr Distinguished Adams is also listed in Who' Who of the Western Stales He has directed 23 of William Shakespeare'splaysover75 Utah Opera mam stage producuons Company's premier production of Verdis Othello and Pentagon Theatre Croup for one and a half years Mr Adams also directed scenes from Shakespeare at DHS in 1978 Mr Adams and his students perform to 370(0 high school students a year This immensely helps with advertising for the Shakespearean Festival in the summer The festival is held at SUU in Cedar City all summer and part of fall Information is available at the City Library and other places or tickets are available by calling the college Fred Adams graduated from DHS in 1949 In talking about his years at DHS he say s"My years there were filled with wonderful fnends inspiring teachers and unlimited opporturuues Where else could a 5 year old kid write and direct a full evening's entertainment and be given total support of faculty and facility? These were golden years and were the foundation upon which my entire life was built A sense of ‘you can do any thing of you really w ant to' filled my formative years" Devon Neilson Sarah Scoville Emily May in pioneer costume Pioneer History As part of the new eighth period extensions program students in the sixdi grade classes of Scott Sheriff and Kari Crook participated in a special historical program Students in the above picture represented Irish immigrants who later settled in Millard County in the Deseret area Sarah Scoville age and Emily May age 12 are shown wearing the shawls pioneer hats while Devon Neilson is wearing a cotton “Dixie" jacket and holding a woven basket Jennifer Stevens Jennifer and Wade Stevens attended the International Science and Engineering Fair during the week of May To be able to compete in the International fair appointment at a regional or state science fair is necessary Jennifer and Wade both placed first at the Southern Utah Fair and were appointed to attend the international fair The international fair w as held in Biloxi Missis On Wedensday May 19th the aw ards assembly will be held During this Assembly various awards will be presented to graduating seniors and community members The high school presents two community members with service to the school outstanding awards Honor and students Events at MHS Livestock Horses and Dairy In the livestock competition Shane Walker was the high individual The team w hich consisted of Shane Walker Kirby Peterson Michael Dear den and Kyle Wheeler placed 2nd The horse judging team consisted of Matt Fmlinson Dearden Chnstina Heather Nicholls and Theresa Anzures They placed 2nd Chnstina Dearden w as third high individual and Heather Nicholls w as fourth Tie dairy team placed first at competition The members of the team were Ben Gasser Ronda Stan worth Larry Correia and Stacey Spadaro Ben Gasser was die high individual The Richmond Black and White Day was held on May 13 The team consisted of Ben Gasser Larry Correia Ronda SLan worth and Andrea Stan worth They placed 2nd in placings and 3rd in reasons to lead to an overall 3rd The Delta FFA Chapter would like to congratulate all of those that competed We w ould also like to w ish them the best of luck at State competition Mr Evans Amanda Styler LuAnn Styler (mother) May 21 Senior Trip to Lagoon May 22 "M"Day May 24 Yearbook Dance May 25 Senior Farewell Assembly May 26 Millard High School Commencement Mike Styler (father) Styler receives writing award On May 3 Amanda Styler received notification that she had won second place in the 1993 Scholastic Writing Contest This contest is sponsored by Scholastic Inc and Smith Corona This year over 25000 entries were received from the United States US schools abroad US tern tones and Canada Amanda was chosen second for her poem entitled “The Night the Food Danced" She was competing with other 6th 7th and 8 th grade students in the Shellie Dutson explains how the paper is produced each week Delta High Graduation for the Delta High School class of 1993 will be held cm Wednesday May 26 1993 Graduation will begin at 7 pm in 0k Delta High West 300 North School gymnasium-5- SELLS! IIN t HEMR at The Plaza 520 E Topaz 4 Deta Utah 84624 FrL M2y 21 thru Thurs Sara Ogden Nathan Lewis and Dana Dutson Students score high Three students from Delta Middle School scored within the top seven in the a stale of Utah on “Le Grand Concours national French examination that was given this spnng Nathan Lewis placed 5th and Dana Duison 7th among all Middle School student in their second y ear of French Sara Ogden was 7th among all the 1st year French students in Middle Schools in the state of Utah Even though the state publishes only the top seven in French scores Nadelie Molyneaux at least tied for 8th place because her score was only one point less than Sara's French students from the Middle School paid a fee and stayed an hour after school in order to compete with the rest of the nation Beverly DeWyze the French teacher complimented these students as well as all of the others who arc willing to spend extra umc and effort in order to excel May 27 (five her a treasure Ihe time(&ss Beauty of cedar SENIORS: We do custom orders!
