Show Millard County Chronicle Progress February 20 1992 Paae5 COMMUNITY EVENTS m Amy Spencer Ambassador for Southern Utah March of Dimes and Debbie Bennett 1992 WalkAmerica Chairman for Millard County 4 1992 March of Dimes WalkAmerica Chairperson Named The March of Dimes Southern Utah Division recently named Debbie Bennett as their 1992 WalkAmerica chairman for Millard County "Our office feels very positive about the individuals who have chosen' to spend their lime volunteering for America’s healthier babies" said Jean Hatch Director of the Southern Utah Division of the March of Dimes “The March of Dimes is going to be the recipient of some fine work" Recently each of the 24 Southern Utah walk chairman attended a Walk America ti aining seminar in Provo at the last Bay Inn During the seminar they were trained in the different aspects of putting on a Walk such as organizing a PRESIDENT FILLMORE committee planning the route obtaining vendor support and recruitment We also try to educate each of the volunteers as to the mission of the March of Dimes said Hatch "It’s important each of them understands our mission to decrease our infant mortality rate and reduce the birth defects children can be bom with" WalkAmerica is the oldest largest and most successful walking event in the nation In Utah we have over 10000 individual walkers statewide and 6000 TcamWalkers All of the funding raised by the March of Dimes supports research advocacy public services and education Pahvant Valley Senior Schedule MILLARD LIBRARY By Ruth Corbridge Librarian '25 Scuth 100 West Fillmore Utah By Evelyn Mallet Well Hello there again It has been a while Hope that you are as excited about this new year as we are In the next couple of months we are going to be in the process of entering all of our books and patrons into the computer Yes we are going to be computerized by the end of the year This will help us to facilitate our patrons in a more timely manner Look for our progress updates as wc implement these changes in the library Wc know that this will help us to serve you belter Please help us identify any areas that you feel we might improve in to serve you better We will have a suggestion box at the check out counter for your convenience For the next several weeks we have a great exhibit of Civil Warcalvary relics This is being shared with us thanks to Mr and Mrs Sam Starley We thank them for this opportunity to share these interesting items with our patrons We do hope that you will come in and enjoy them Do you know anyone else that might have something of interest to share with the community? the Provo area On Friday Feb 7 Melvin Glen his son Willard Whitaker and Arlene Whitaker Lundberg traveled to Richfield to attend the championship wrestling where Lany Whitaker was participating While there Arlene spent some time at the home of her close friend N'eRae Christensen Hansen Melvin w as an overnight guest of his Aunt Leora Allen in Richfield then attended more wrestling on Sat New members of the Kanosh Ward are Stephen and Belva Gae Pratt and their two sons Gen and Jonathan We welcome them The Pratts have property in the Cove Fort area where they have built a shop and the time being have living quarters inside it with plans to build a new home The Pratts are Wheelwrights afid are kept busy restoring early machinery wagons carriages cannons etc Mr Stephen Pratt traveled Visiting Teacher’s Convention Relief Society President Ilene Hatton welcomed the group and took charge of the Convention Special guests were Bishop Dean Perkins and Mrs Kevin Coats Following a luncheon Blanche George presented the homcmaking lesson "Teaching Home Making Skills in the Family" Musical numbers were enjoyed also a very interesting talk by the guest speaker Cathy Coats 18 On Feb Moms Beauregard Payne who came from Bertha Heath Bly Nixon Lavon Thora MtKcc and Orlene Christensen Ellen and Bemiece Stephenson Marjone Stevens accompanied their sisters Shirley and Phyllis for a trip to Southern Utah They slopped in LaVell to visit their Turner who had a delicious dinner prepared for them They went on down to St George to spend the night and turned home the next day after driving through Zion's Canyon These five sisters had a wonderful trip Anna Rae and Boyd and family and Doreen Ashby were m St George Friday Feb 14th for the temple wedding of Michele Stevens and Henry Brunson They also attended the wedding reception in Cedar City that evening Our sympathy to Denise Tuttle Steve and David Condie on the passing of their Grandmother Dorothy Mullins on Sal Feb 15th They were all in Salt Lake for funeral i rviccs this week Mrs Mullins lived in McComick for many years with her daughter JoAnn Condie and family Denise Tuule Tammy Beckstrand and Carlinc Condie recently returned from a trip to Washington State to visit their grandmother Dor ihy Mullins and other relatives They flcv on to Billings Montana to visit their f ithcr and wife Myra who is the mi ion president there Marilyn and Lee Bmadbcnl of Coalville attended Church in Holden Sunday They had come especially for the wedding of Michele Stevens Congratulations to Van Whatcott son of Loma and Phil Whatcott and Brandon Stephenson son of Amy and Raymond Stephenson who placed 4th at the State Wrestling Tournament in Salina last week Visiting Gerald and Nina Coats for the long weekend were their Visiting Renan Stevens for the week- Congratulations to Karma and Scott Bums on the birth of a baby boy on Saturday Feb 8 in the Payson Hospital The new baby weighed in at 8 lbs 2 12 oz and will be named Sterling Jason Proud grandparents are Mayor and Nola Charlesworth and Becky and Bud Bums This is the first baby for Karma and Scott and the first grandchild for the Charlesworths Great grandmother is Mary Charlesworth Kaye and Brian were in Salt Lake on Saturday afternoon to pick up a new baby boy Grandparents are Elladene and Merrill Stephenson and Joy and Myron Johnson Stella Johnson has returned after a trip to Mesquite NV with her son Ken and wife of Aurora Jerry and Nina Coats attended Potato School in St George last week staying overnight on Friday Also going down from McComick were Kevin and Kathy Coats Lauri and Steve Condie Kris and David Condie Melanie Eric and Mike Searlc Louise Bennett has returned after spending four days in Arizona Her sister and brother from Salt Lake City picked her up and they drove to Scottsdale A Z for the Golden Wedding of their brother Alvin Meeting them there were another sister from Arkansas and another sister Alla Mae and husband of Cedar City and Louise's son Ladd and wife Shirley of Sacrajnento They all enjoyed a dinner show to celebrate the anniversary They enjoyed seeing Sun City Las Vegas and Hoover Dam on the way home These five brothers and sisters take a trip every spring gether Louise Bennett received a phone call from her granddaughter Karecn Turner telling her she will be going to Germany on a program with some students from BYU this summer She was one out of 100 students selected to live with a Slake President helping him to translate some LDS books into German in Bad Reichenhall (near Salsburg)
