Show Millard County Chronicle NOTICE OF ft Sport s OYOfyono ploy Philosophies first In previous articles I’ve discussed and "Balanced “Everyone Plays" Teams" With spring registration coming soon let's explore “Positive Coaching” Because AYSO is committed to helping children dev e top healthy attitudes about themselves and competition coaching must emphasize the positive Negative criticism instead of objective is harmful to the player and coach and does not serve the team well While we want to develop competitive skills we must not lose focus that competition must be enjoyable Positive coaching means instructing without condemning praising the individual while working together to improve skills Develop trust and communication with your players For instance if an individual has a particular skill problems it may be better to tell him or her privately and suggest ways in which they may work on this skill at home They will appreciate this and probably improve But criticizing them openly could cause to you as a hostilities and a coach Get to know your players and people too This will give you greater insight as to what will make them responsive in a coaching situation Be open and willing to discuss your players progress with their parents Parents sometimes have exaggerated expectations for skill progress or feel their child should be playing a position that perhaps they aren't really ready for in a game situation Don’t get caught in the middle! Head off possible problems with open honest and fair communication with parents and players They will appreciate your integrity Encourage practice attendance self discipline and good training habits right from the start Let them know you expect good things from them believe in them and they’ll seldom let you down They in turn will feel good about themselves Each player should be aware that his First responsibility is to his teammates Encourage players to talk to each other in a positive way at practice and on the game field I always let my players rule is know at First practice that my "No Negative Criticism” Appropriate or comments criticism range from “That’s Okay you’ll stop them next time” to “Good try way to go" as opposed to "I knew you couldn’t play that position” or "What’s wrong with you what a dumb play" In ending I’d like to encourage every coach to remember to put the playerfs) his feelings and needs before himself and the Final score Section meeting will be held Friday Feb 15 at 12 noon through Sunday noon Feb 17 We are very excited about this year’s agenda emphasizing "sportsmanship" Some of the workshops offered will be “Coaching Girls - Is There Really a Difference?" “Sportsmanship and the Games" Young Player" "The Under 8 Coaching Course” and "Referees Role in Sportsmanship" If you like to would and are an AYSO volunteer attend we would like to pay your registration fee Our funds are limited so you must contact us quickly You may conWes Bloomtact Joe Tarin at Babe DeWolf 864921 field or any other Board Member Call now!
