Reflections Two new student teachers joined the staff of Delta Technical and Delta High School dunng the first week of January They are Deborah Wardle Corbndge daughter of Allen and Julia Wardle and Jackt Welman Johnson daughter of Dean and Janet Seim an and the recent bride of Craig Johnson from Sutherland Debbie is completing her education at SUU in Cedar City and Jacki at USU in Logan Debbie is working with Jill Clay and Dale Jensen Jacki is working with Dave Taylor and Carl Lyman Both student teachers are business education majors Debbie was bom in Tremonton Utah She has two brothers and three sisters She graduated from Delta High School as valedictorian in 1986 and is excited to come back to do her student teaching Debbie enjoys painting ceramics playing the piano being outdoors doing handiwork reading and being with her husband Mark Jacki was bom in Tremonton also where she graduated from Bear River High School She is enjoying the opportunity of teaching in Delta Jacki enjoys dancing crafts handiwork being outdoors and being with her new family Debbie and Jacki will complete their student teaching in the middle of March They enjoy working with the staff and students and w ant to express their appreciation for the opportunity to be a part of the teaching institutions at Della “ The work an unknown good man has done is like a vein of water flowing hidden under- visits with Kindergarten students about the Gulf thanks Captain Fowles 4 icontest 'I 1 f it winners announced "If Had A Dream” was the theme of the Delta South Elementary PTA Reflections contest In an awards sembly recently the following youngsters were presented certificates for the respective areas of their participauon m the contest In the Literature category Emily Peterson and Emily May received Supewhile rior certificates Courtney Knudsen won 1st place and Ember Chamberlain won 2nd place honors Winners in Visual Arts are: Nathan Kapler and Emily Peterson with Derrick Hathaway won a 1st place certificate Brennan Lee and Cade Nielson tied with 2nd place honors In Photography Jason Christensen was the sole winner with a Superior rating The winners in the field of Music Perry and Laralee Lovell with Superior ratings and Rebecca Stout winning 1st place These three youngsters played their original selections on the piano at the awards assembly They are to be commended to the excellent job they did Judges for the Reflections contest were Ken Rand Sue Dutson Linda Afton Dutson and Kevin Larsen Chapman A huge vote of thank s goes to these individuals for the difficult task that was theirs of selecting the very best of all of the entries in the four categories All of the students who participated in the contest arc to be congratulated for their time and effort for the excellence which they achieved We at Delta South give special thanks to our PTA for all of the time and effort they spend in proving such for our worthwhile opportunities youngsters A big Coyote Card Thank You PTA ground secretly making the ground green" Carlyle Mr Arnokison's 4th graders project pose proudly The week of January 21 1991 was designated as SPIRIT WEEK at Delta North Elementary Special activities coordinated by the PTA were planned for each day to help youngsters gain pride for their school and community The week began with an early morning assembly Monday PTA President Jetta Swalberg announced the week's various activities to the assembled studentbody and encouraged their spirited support for our school and staff With her official decree that Monday was SMILE DAY students began understanding just how fun this special week could be! Following a patriotic pledge of allegiance to our flag and country students joined together to sing our school song They were then dismissed to their classes where smile badges were distributed to one and all Tuesdays activity was HAT DAY Students thoroughly enjoyed the variety of hats they saw worn that day Some were indeed very amusing! BEST w is declared Wednesday DRESS DAY Students were encouraged to wear their very best clothing to show a special pride in appearance We The conference was an excellent learning experience for all who attended Those representing Millard's chapter were: Trudy Swallow Beth Henderson Suzette Ferguson Julianne Speakman Shantelle Noyes Monica Kelly Lisa Julie Monica Beckstrand Bamhurst Moody Jamie Speakman and advisor Denise Bradshaw “ you want work well done select a busy man-t- he other kind has no time" - Robert C Edwards front of our “yellow ribbon" do indeed have a very handsome studentbody! All the dresses reminded several staff members of the “good old days” when dresses were the only appropriate attire for girls! Thursday was a very special day Our school colors are black and yellow and everyone was encouraged to wear the colors of the BUSY BEE It was suggested by Mrs Dclna Bliss one of our Kindergarten teachers that we tie yellow nbbons on our Main Street fence to show our love for the USA at this time when world tensions are so high We agreed that this small patriotic endeavor for our would be very healthy studentbody We hope all who pass our school have enjoyed our contribution to the yellow ribbon campaign Friday was BACKWARDS DAY Students enjoyed this day immensely Sometimes it’s fun to just be silly and silly is an apt description for some of the things that transpired that day! We thank the DNES PTA for the many events they plan for our school Their support and contributions are great! FES principal’s moustache doomed! welcome reward for 8 months of hard work The early morning practices sore muscles and hours of costume construction were suddenly all worth it when die High girls heard "1st School” The community shares a part in this achievement and the Selgaes wish to thank all who have contributed to their success A special invitation is extended to the w hole commun ity on Feb 27th when die Selgaes will be hosung the Selgae Spectacular The program will feature 5 dance and gymnastic performing groups from the community Region Drill Team Competition will also be held at Millard High School on March 2nd Everyone is invited to attend March of Dimes Peer Education Conference The Future Homemakers of America of Millard High School attended the annual Pcr Education Conference sponsored by the March of Dimes on January 11th and 12th at the Provo Excelsior Hotel FHA members from all ov rr the state met together to learn about critical teen issues that are facing teams today The goal is to have them go back to their shcool and teach their peers about these issues "Rising Above the Rest” was the theme for this year’s conference Two reputable speakers John Crudele and Brad Wilcox talked on die theme and Other workshops such as: environmental money management concerns AIDS and child abuse were held in Busy Bees tie yellow ribbons MHS Drill Team Wins at Rocky Mountain By Susan Hansen Historian “Udderly Fantastic!" was one judge's comment after seeing the Millard High School Selgaes Novelty compeution number featuring twenty one “cows" This unique number won 1st place at the Rocky Mountain Drill Team Competition at the Salt Palace on Saturday January 19th The team was also recognized for their dance and military numbers They placed 1st and 2nd respectively The girls were also highly complimented at the Utah Classic held at Wasatch High School on December 1st where they won a st place in Dance and a 5th in Military This recognition from these prestigious drill team competitions came as a the world at this time They share many of the same fears and anxieties that adults do Captain Fowles’ visit allowed them an opportunity to ask questions to a trained officer of the US Military The professional and calm manner in which Capt Fowles responded to the students helped allay some of their concerns Again we thank Paul for his visit to our students We salute him as well as other members of our nation's military force for the role they play in preserving the freedoms we too often take for granted ' S Student teachers join staff Fowles On Thursday and Friday January 24 and 25 Utah National Guard Captain Paul W Fowles graciously agreed to visit each of our 8 classes to discuss the events that are occurring in the Persian Gulf We express our sincere gratitude and thanks to him for taking time from his busy schedule to explain these events and answer questions and concerns the students had We especially thank Paul's wife Lenore and their new baby (bom Wednesday) for allowing “Dad” to spend some time with us Elementary age children are troubled with the events that are occurring in yT Deborah Wardle Corbndge W War Why is Principal Charles Ferguson standing in a trash can? He’s trying to stamp down the reading slips it is filled with He has promised to have two teachers shave his moustache off when the trash can is full of reading slips Fillmore Elementary School’s principal Charles Ferguson will soon be losing his moustache Students at the school have met his challenge to turn in enough home reading slips to fill a 55 gallon trash can Principal Ferguson promised that his moustache would be shaved off when the trash can was full February 15 has been set as the date for the moustache shaving event On that date two teachers will arm themselves with razors to perform the as the students look on Other activities are scheduled to commemorate the reading accomplishment Just which teachers will be doing the shaving has not been determined as yet The teachers of the two classes which have done the most home reading throughout the contest will earn the honor Students still had until February 4 to turn in reading slips At this writing the leaden are Mrs Allen (4th grade) Mrs Rowley (4th grade) Miss Johnson (3rd grade) Mrs Perkins (3rd grade) and Mrs Stephenson (2nd grade) By the time the final reading slips are tallied it is expected that students will have read more than 800000 minutes at home since the challenge began last September The students were only lowed to count days when they watched less than two hours of television In the leading class Mrs Allen's 4th grade each student has read an average of 2892 minutes dining the challenge |
