some time in her life and more than 42 JXX) will die from it in 1990 These frightening statistics are causing women to become more aware of what causes breast cancer who is susceptible to it and how it can be detected and treated Risk factors increase for women who have a personal or fanviy history of breast cancer who have never had children or have their first child after the age of 30 Breast cancer is most common in women over the age of 50 but has also been detected in younger women through mammograms or physical examination Warning signs include persistent changes in the breast such as a lump swelling dimpling skin thickening irritation distortion retraction or scaliness of the nipple nipple discharge pain or tenderness Breast cancer occurs most often as a painless lump or thickening frequently in the upper outer portion of the breast although it can occur anywhere in the breast It can also spread to the armpit neck chest and other parts of the body through the blood stream However 80 percent of the lumps detected are benign or non cancerous Breast cancer is thought to develop in stages with a stage one lump being about the size of a pea and enlarging to the size of a golf ball by later stages Cancers detected in the earliest stage can be treated allowing a 93 percent survival rate If the cancer is not detected early the survival figure drops to 13 percent to 64 percent A woman’s best defense against breast cancer is monthly breast self examination along w ith regular physical examinations by a health care professional and mammograms for women age 35 and older The state of Utah cancer screening program is scheduled in Millard County during the month of October which teaches self examination and an examination by state Health personnel Mammography can the time (up to six months) it takes to complete the repairs During that period money from the loan can also be used to make the monthly payment on your new loan until you can move in No double
