This is the first time in at least six years we have taken four superiors on our dances" said adviser Linda Bringhurst Candice Webster said “We won because we set our goal for four superiors and we reached it We also felt good about how we danced and that’s what counts” “Our attitudes wavered but when we got to state we knew we were a team and we could only do it as a team We put a lot of work into all our dances and we know we started a winning tradition" said Holly Byrd Julie Rose president said “It was a lot of hard work but we worked as a team and pulled together and got what we set out to get Our attitudes did have a lot to do with it because everyone had a good attitude and knew we could do it" Six DHS students to be docents for Anne Frank exhibit Students who scored highest on the American High School Math Exam were (top row) Lance Greener Jeff Stewart Darin Clay Becky Wilson Terresa Nickle Bethany Bacon Tina DeGraw Dan Nielsen and Lisa Nielsen 60 students demonstrate their math proficiency DHS Sixty Delu High students took the American High School Math Exam (AHSME) on Tues Feb 27 The test is a nationally issued and monitored exam that ranks students on an individual and state level The test requires that the students complete a 30 question test in 90 minutes Tina DeGraw a junior who took the test said "A lot of the problems I couldn't even answer even though a lot of it w as simple deduction I didn’t even - do half of the problems” Darin Clay received the highest score of the Dll S students for the second year in a row Darin said “It was a very difficult test I think it is a lot harder this year) than last year" Other students who ranked in the top ten were (in order) Jeff Stewart Lisa Nielsen Becky Alycia Greathouse Terresa Bacon Wilson Bethany Nickle Tina DeGraw Dan Nielsen and Lance Greener class The Horticulture con- structs an Elephant Pen at DHS? This is one reaction to the Horticulture class’s new project that they call the Elephant Pen which is located in the front entrance of the school "The project involves a total of the area" said Mr Thomas about the eight by ten foot plot that used to be just a mound of dirt The project got its name from the large railroad ties sticking out of the ground making it look like an elephant pen The ties will be cut off however so admirers will be able to see into the area Ail students in the class drew sketches of what they though the ished project should look like Then they combined the sketches to get the final basic plan and figure out the specifics “We hope to have three pools of water with waterfalls and a recirculating pump It will be a mountain type setting with spruce trees and whatever else we can gel from the canyon" caid Mr Thomas There will also be a redwood bench in front of the area for students to sit on Actual cost of the project is exp acted to be under $200 The money will be obtained mostly by volunteer mothers helping with fund raisers Besides the $200 Paul Vicrs has offered to donate the necessary cement for the project and Mr Turley has donated over $200 worth of railroad tics Two spruce trees will also be donated by Mr Thomas The project will hopefully be completed before school is out “It'll probably take many hours after school as well as class time" said Mr Thomas The group also hopes to have 100 poplar trees planted around the practice field and other school areas before the school year ends DHS -
