I found there were five first grade classes so I visited each one The children in each class were absoutcly captivating They were so well behaved clean and eager and willing to listen to their teacher Every classroom was decorated with interesting displays of their art work and ideas Miss Weight was the teacher of the first room I visited She and 17 of her little students welcomed me with smiles and an explanation of the decorations and a story Their theme for the month w as a rainbow and the pot of gold There were many little pots of gold on the wall with the rainbow one made by each child with his or her name on it It made a very colorful arrangement The story w as about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow but the leprechaun was too fast and took the pot of gold away for himself Mrs Olsen's classroom had a wonderful display of kites Since March is kite month each boy and girl had drawn and colored a kite with their name on it There was also another wall with a lion and lamb motif and those lambs were pretty sassy looking On a wall of Mrs Kessler's room was a long blue ocean and many colored fish sw imming in the water or jumping out 18 to be exact one made by each child in her class The ocean was artistically one in finger painting by the children Leprechauns were being colored green with red hair in Mrs Wood’s classroom Herchildren had some interesting ideas on what color the faces should be To get into an Irish mood they listened to the words and music about Leprechauns and did all the right motions to it I counted 19 busy little people there Mr Johnson's class had a beautiful display of lions cm one side of the board on the opposite side were many little wooly lambs The adage "March cornea in like a lion goes out like a lamb" was also displayed You could tell that class had been thinking The walls of the halls around these five classrooms also featured some wondrous and orginal art work in the way of posters depicting all the exciting events in the month of March Made me think of how much fun it would be to go back to school as a child again maybe Training completed Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Ted F Scottom a resident of Fillmore UT recently completed annual active duty training while serving aboard the guided missile USS Duncan frigate homeported in Long Beach Calif During the training conducted in the Sea of Japan Scottom took part in preparation for a major engineering inspection which involved numerous drills and preparing and administrative checking accounting procedures He also participated in several refueling at sea evolutions antisubmarine and electronic warfare exercises He joined the Navy Reserves in January 1970 Tuesday March 20: Salisbury Steak Wednesday March 21 T urkey dressing casserole Thursday March 22 Spaghetti and meatballs Don't forget the birthday bingo on Wednesday March 21 Are there any rock hounds around?
