Show Eros 2 Millard CcunfY Chronicle Progress March 8 1990 Comments Hi Neighbor The word for today u BIGOT Can you say BIGOT boy and girl? That’ right Can you tpell BIGOT? B a in Biased I a Intolerant and IgnoranL G as in G ang (Bigots move in packs) O as not being able to see beyond One’s nose and T as in Twisted Do we want to be bigots boy and girls? No we don’t want to be bigots My lead may be a little corny but it expresses my sentiments I am so tired of prejudice I could become Rip Van Winkle And the sad thing is I don't think I could possibly live long enough to see it eradicated We never seem to get any smarter It seems every generation has to go through it all over again Heaven help anyone who is different We become like a bunch of chickens in the barnyard picking at the weaker or different one What has set me off? No particular incident just disgust with what seems to be an increase in prejudiced behavior And it seems to me the biggest bigots are usually the weakest links I keep thinking of the story a friend told me about an incident during World War II when he was a Code Talker Obviously if he was a Code Talker he is a Navajo He said one night the fighting was particularly heavy and the Marines DOWNWINDERS by Sue LETTERS were pinned down They sent a sharpshooter to scout and told my friend to go with him to radio back the location of the big gun The gun was located and the transmission made The two had to make a hasty retreat as the shelling started immediately and the Code Talker was always in danger from both sides Japanese who thought he was a Marine and Americans who thought he was a Japanese dressed in a Marine uniform The next morning when they were able to advance they came to the gun they had destroyed and the Japanese manning the gun tom to bits around it My friend said he looked at the bodies and thought “They are men just like me They have families My words did this” One of the white Marines watching him sneered “What’s the matter Chief?” “I think he thought I was weak” my friend said Do I think writing will change anything? No I have a theory that bigotry is enhanced by ignorance and lack of education and a feeling of inadequacy so I doubt anyone who fits that description will be reading this And if they didn't would not get the message I just feel a little better having said it And I think I will be more vocal when it happens around me Dear Editor It has been my pleasure to serves as a director of the Fillmore hospital and then as a trustee of the Fillmore and Delta Community Medical Centers During this time quality care available to us has become something we as citizens should be proud of As a result of the clinic in Scipio and the dedication and caring of Dr Limburg Dr Jackson and nurses of most of our citizens are now using the facilities of Fillmore Community Medical centoIt especially renders a great source to those that are unable to leave town to see a doctor or obtain a prescription Prescriptions are phoned in and through the kindness of the citizens they are delivered to the patients that evening This is a great service Too many of us just sit in our comfort zone and then have a lot to say about our church schools and politicians without much thought as to how much dedication time and effort it takes to make things happen The majority of our county citizens were comfortable with the health care we had until Intermountain Health Care (1HC) came to our rescue and built two new hospitals that we now enjoy This was an investment of $450 for every man woman and child in our county Since that time they have subsidized our two hospitals for operation and maintenance about 6 million dollars This year IHC has approved our and maintenance budget operating $8000 for every man committing woman and child to maintain and improve quality health care In November the trustees commissioner and staff met in Provo with the officials of IHC and again were reassured by them of their commitment to our two hospitals for the very best health care provided by any rural hospitals The two hospitals can now provide better health care than the LDS hospital could just a few years back You should take the time to investigate the health care that can be provided here in our community They're more than just a first aid station proclaimed by a few Just recently (he hospital association complied a reference book on the various hospital costs throughout the state Our costs are competitive and in some cases lower than other outlying hospitals This book is available for inspection and comparison at each hospital think about iL” No action is expected immediately The requests for summary judgement will likely be taken under advisement Erickson said Down winders is also disappointed that a Draft Environmental Impact on the ECTC is being withheld The DEISW to have been published at the end of January but when the project was not budgeted Air Force officials decided to withhold iL COMMUNITY CALENDAR Motor Vehicle Schedule: Fillmore & Delta weekdays Millard County Assessor’s Office 2nd Thursday of Month Great Basin Historical Society meeting 7:00 pm Museum open every day pm except Sunday Every Thursday TOPS meets at Delta Middle School dining room 5 pm 10 am Wednesdays Story Hour Delta City Library Wednesdays 7 8 pm English class for Spanish speaking people Delta City Library February 15 - I can tell by your answer who you voted for in the last election A group of wimpy men in Paris have for decades become wealthy by conned women into wearing the most ridiculous costumes imaginable What kind of catnip do they use to stimulate their creativity? Or do they cat pepper oni for breakfast? These whackos hate women But why do the women let them get away with it? (This too need more garments against htum use of clothes made from animal fur suggest l -fur coats used car boo s may be just hats and as fashionable Humans wear funny hats Welders for example wear hats with pretty pastel colors and cute little cm the top No gay man in California would be caught dead in such a hat (Kittys Wonder and otherfun to wise may find the play with) Why would anybody want to wear a baseball cap with the MegaCorp sloand pay for the gan on the front privilege? A generic hat with no ads on it will keep the sun out of ones eyes just like one that says “Drink Bud and you won’t throw up on your shoes" Ditto Blank are The fortunes of potato out hipwisc chip magnates are made or lost based on the hipitude of slogans (Libertarians take note: Republicrats and Demopublicans haven’t really caught on to this yet The political arena is wide open) America needs a Constitutional Amendment making it permissible to and hats without slogans wear ads or cute saying Who is Polly Esther? The psycholog ical and philosophical implication of the resemblance of neckties to nooses is staggering Along those same grim lines note that the interchangeability of the appearance of any two human males in “business suits” epitomize the concept of “uniform" Note the little buttons on the sleeves of men's suits They are as useless as snake shoes Button manufacturers could teach the Pentagon Note also the useless tie something clasp and cuff links The quantity of such costume minutiae is directly proportional to the minutiae of the wearers job Lawyers for instance or TV an study) There is a direct correlation between female clothing habits and the male intaesl in the female epidermis Many female clothing choices scon to have less to do with the temperature of the environment than with the temperature of nearby males Never go to a slam dance barefooted New fashion trend: shirts so loud they come with earplugs Sports clothing is interesting Football players wear 600 pounds of armor Baseball players wear pajamas Basketball players wear underwear Sumo wrestlers wear diapers Golfers and skiers (like country and western singers) wear anydadgum thing they want since they are colorblind and tasteless Tastelessness in clothing is chic Note the adolescent of the species wearing objects of mismatched sizes and bizarre color Note the sunglasses I suspect they dress in the dark Whether this is to conserve energy or because the sunglasses are stapled to their heads I have not yet determined I hope I have entertained my fourlegged colleagues and that readers of the human persuasion find these m usings informative (Editor’s note: Cato wishes to again thank Greg Griffith for bis defr handling of the family while MM Is absent) HNMMMMNNNmNRMMNNmMHIIIIItllllinHMMMHMMMMMni by Postmaster Tom Hamilton L - Agent a dunce cap) Rand Postmarks Manager Rita Robinson L'SU Extension Lamb and Pig Weigh In Saturday ANIMALS Reporter Julie Ward Goerta changes The County Agent B Dutaon Editorial Evelyn ( registration desk It is true that at times we are referred to specialists in the larger hospitals some of which are the best in the West but most health problems can be treated here locally Our Doctor know their capabilities and will give good referral for your specific needs The administration has scheduled exceptional specialists to visit both hospitals on a regular basis They are available to residents by just a phone call Many of these have full schedules the days they are here Recently one of our visiting orthopedic surgeons had in excess of 50 patients call on him during his visit to Millard County To be personal our family has had to seek the help from some specialists They have been good but have you ever asked one for help on less special sickness that is out of their field of expertise? Time and expense will make you wish you had seen your local doctor My wife under the care of three specialists had swollen ankles for at least three months to the point wc had to buy her larger slippers No one helped her until they referred her to our local doctors for high blood sugar He corrected the swollen ankles in three days Last tests the blood sugar was normal She had an appointment with her oncologist on February 9th Because of her weakened condition we called him on February 5 th He referred her to our local physician and she required two days of hospitalization blood platelets and five units of blood which was administered to her at our local hospital February 9th would have been to late If we would have had the present equipment for tests seven years ago chances are wc would have not needed the specialists wc are using now We only have one alternative to having good health As I get along in years I realize how important it is to have local centers for any sickness emergency or extended care for those that cannot be cared for at home I am sure that those that have used the present facilities for your loved ones are grateful and have enjoyed a better quality of life because of their availability Let us get out of our comfort zone and give the center our loyalty and support they deserve LaMar Monroe Scipio Utah Publisher - Editor Susan by Kea (westing (Editor’s note: MM is oace again out of town Not only that bat be isn’t here This week’seolumn was written by Cato the Wonder Kitty MM 'a ciAkU-md Journalistic companion We trust you’ll note the dramatic MM will be back crease in quality next week Sorry) Publishing at 40 N 300 Located at Della every Thursday Utah 84624 Fillmore Stake Choir Festival 7 pm Stake Center March 12 Auditions for "Pinocchio" Delta North Elementary 3:30 - 5:30 pm March 13 Food Handlers Class Delta Public Health 2:30 pm & 4 pm ($5 fee) Little League Baseball meeting for parents of 9 - 12 yr olds 8 pm White Sage Rec office March 15 DAV representative in Fillmore pm Job Service March 16 Amy Hyde and Dusty Callister wedding reception pm Delta Stake Center Amy Lynn Robison and Donald Griffes wedding reception pm Fillmore lsc4th Ward March 16 & 17 "Pinocchio" Delta High School Audi- lorium Missoula Children’s Theater March 17 Greg Topham and Michelle Humphries wedding open house 7:30 - 9:30 pm Delta 3rd Ward 197 South 300 WesL March 18 Grant Finlinson 80th Birthday Open House Kent Dewsnup residence Oak City 3 6 pm Girl State Tea Lodge Hall 364 West 100 South Delta March 19 - 24 Daffodil Days Call to order Help win the fight against cancer March 22 Women’s Cancer Screening Clinic call Delta Public Health for information and appL Food Handlers class 2:30 pm Fillmore Public Health Dept March 23 Lisa Taylor and Rick Fowles wedding reception 7 - 9:30 pm Delta 1st Ward March 24 American Legion birthday party 7 pm Fillmore Legion HalL March 26 Immunization Ginic Delta Public Health 9 1:30 am & - 4:30 pm Immunization Ginic 9 - noon Blood Pressure Ginic 1:15 - 4 pm Fillmore Public Health EDITOR Pleased with availability of quality medical care Continued from front page for federal court in Salt Lake City Thursday March 8 A federal court judge will be asked to issue a summary judgement in the case Erickson said he Friday March 30 expects the Air Force will ask for a summary judgement in its favor at the same time The judge could grant either request or order a trial “We could request a jury inal" Erickson said “but I don’t think we will It's a possibility We'll have to Media Manl's Cat writes whilst nekkid TO THE Y H H U D G J G N W K B M B T F I R Z G C N M U N K O S T S B E If The best guide is still it’s too good to be true it probably is Better Business Bureau's most often are not aware of fraud operations until it’ too late Mail fraud is the direct responsibility of the US Postal Inspection Service They investigate and prosecute violations of Postal and US law Part of the 25 cents pa letter you pay goes to provide this service Anytime you suspect that mail fraud is involved in advertisements that you receive please contact your local Post Office or drop into the Delta office I will be glad to assist you in notifying the postal inspection service PEANUT BUTTER PLAYDOUGH cup peanut butter cup nonfat dry milk cup Karo syrup 14 cup sifted powdered sugar Utah Fraud I think we all hate it but don’t want to turn down a good deal Probably it’i the American Spirit to get the best deal you possibly can We always shop where we think we will get the best price Shopping by mail order catalog continue to increase as we have less and less time to spend shopping at stores You can buy almost everything you need and want from the convenience of your home Almost daily the mail brings one advertisement or another to your home Ninety eight or more percent of all advertising is kgitimate But what do you do about the one or two percent that it fraud?
