Show Delta wins consolation by Mike Pace Will the real Delta Rabbits please stand up? Are they the Rabbits who controlled the games against Millard and North Sanpete or are they the team that tost to Manti and barely squeaked by Hurricane Hopefully it’s the former Delta came into the Region Tournament riding high from their huge fifteen point win against Millard This win was supposed to give the Rabbits the momentum they needed to do well in the tournament but it wasn’t meant to be as Delta stumbled in the opening game against the Manti The had Rabbits Templars the same trouble that has plagued them in many of their losses this season poor shooting Delta only shot 41 percent in the first half and 30 percent in the cond This stat only seems worse when the percentage is added in (3 out of 14) Despite all this bad news Delta almost came back from an 11 point deficit and won Manti had an point lead at the start of the fourth quarter but Delta fought back and in the closing seconds had a chance to win when Manti missed a foul shot but the Templars grabbed the rebound and came away with a victory This loss put Delta into the Consolation bracket of the tournament and into a must win situation against the North Sanpete Hawks This game had a kind of revenge factor built in as Delta was looking to take out their frustrations from the previous night on the Hawks Delta came out ready to play and used balanced attack to beat Sanpete The Hawks never led in the game and actually never got closer than six points The Rabbits had four players in double figures with Matt Johnson leading all scorers with 21 Johnson also added ten rebounds Kevin Bunker also had a big game with 19 points and 12 rebounds This win put Delta into the State tournament and also into the Consolation championship against the Hurricane Tigers Hurricane came into the tournament largely unheralded They were ranked last and were considered by many observers to be undeserving of a seeding at all But as in all tournaments some teams are always the spoilers and Hurricane came in and surprised a tot of people in beating Juab They also surprised the Rabbits as they took them into overtime and luckily let them escape with a one point win Matt Johnson once again led all scorers with 20 points He also added eight rebounds and three steals Kevin Bunker was 10 behind with 15 points 6 rebounds and two assists Delta goes in this week’s state tournament opening against the Region 9 consolations champions Union This game is another must win for Delta as the first night is single elimination After that Delta will most likely face Richfield Region 10 champions a East Millard Swimming Pool committee reports The Swimming Pool Committee is swimming in completed surveys Over 500 surveys were completed and returned from the communities of Fillmore Flowell Holden Kanosh Meadow and Scipio representing a very substantial portion of the adults in those communities The Committee is extremely grateful for all the work that went t to distributing gathering and analyzing the surveys The results give your Committee a strong message: build a pool!
