Show Ten Years After A Women’s Celebration Ten Years After A Women’s Celebration will be held Sept 5 1987 at Liberty Park The event is being held in commemoration of the International Women’s Year Meeting which took place ten years ago in the Salt Palace The Liberty Park gathering will focus on the progress of women and their hope for the future The meeting that was held ten years ago was intense a meeting of debate over vomen’s issues and political differences But this years celebration is simply that- -a celebration! It will be an afternoon of entertainment speeches nostalgia tears and laughter The celebration is being sponsored American The Association of by University Women and Western Women Unlimited Entertainment for the afternoon will include Liz Draper and friends The Mark Chaney Trio and LynnDee Mueller and Rockn’ Horse There will be at least two speakers including Esther past president of the National Council of Jewish Women and presider at the 1977 Salt Palace meeting There will also be an open mike to provide women the opportunity to share ex- - OAK CITY Eda Christensen Ph: On Aug 21 22 and 23 the Willard R Christensen gathered at the homes Brent and Chris Blake and Blaine and RaNae Christensn Genevieve Christensen was the honored guest Others attending were Mrs Keith R Henrie (Roma) of Winslow AZ Mrs Bruce Humphreys (Hazel) and children Mark Dan Janette and Laura of West CA Mrs Robert Spong Pittsburgh (Ardella) and son Michael Syracuse NY Mrs Richard Christensen and Carol and Dawn Salt Lake daughters Salt City Mrs Grover Christensen Lake City Mrs Ballard Henrie and children Espanola NM Mrs Nelson Miller and children Joseph City AZ Mrs Janice Baker and children Provo Mrs Larry Lanier and children Hyde Park UT Mrs Steve Kelly Salt Lake City Mrs Linda Hiatt Delta Mrs Clark Christensen Orem Mrs Brent Blake and Megan and Mrs Blaine Christensen Mr Michhael Spong reported his mission to Columbia to the family members He is returning to his studies at BYU Miss Carrie Henrie daughter of Mrs Ballard Henrie graduated from Espanola High School in 1987 and is moving to Provo for school and work Mrs Linda Hiatt is the resident of the month at the care center Linda her restorative aide Sylvia Mutorer and her mother have gone to the swimming pool for therapy three times a week Linda has made good progress in her Linda and her family ap- therapy of FLOWELL Virgie Ivic Ph periences of success and progress The idea for this celebration grew out of a breakfast gathering where Katie L Dixon Marilee Latta and Lynne Van Dam (all women who were part of the state’s International Women’s Year Coordinating Committee which planned the June 24 1977 meeting) were discussing the progress of Utah women over the past ten years They spoke of women’s ability to now apply for membership to the Alta Club and The Rotary Club the fact that women now serve as judges both in Utah an don the US Supreme Court and they praised the progress of women in organizational and institutional positions Ms Latta said that she views the Liberty Park meeting as a reunion “I expect to see a lot of women with whom I’ve lost contact It’s a chance to renew friendships” Those attending the celebration are invited to bring a picnic lunch and as many friends as possible “What we really want is a nice day in the park” Ms Latta said “It’s a time for joy celebration and fun” predate the quality care she received at West Millard Care Center Linda has made such progress she is returning to the Rehab Center at the U of U for medical and further treatment for a while! Linda Mrs Blaine Christensen Hiatt and sons Jake and Jerad traveled to Yellowstone for a vacation They also traveled to Rock Springs Flaming Gorge and Roosevelt They had an enjoyable trip All were tired and happy Jake and Jerad Hiatt visited their mother Linda and grandparents Blaine and RaNae Christensen for two weeks in June and one week in July RaNae Christensen and Marci Hansen attended a Behavior Intervention Workshop at Brianhead Aug 3 and 7 Rebecca Pratt spent a week with friends John and Francis Holely in Barlesville OK and Ward and Pauline Duval in Gainville TX They said “hi” and send their love They lived in Oak It was green and City six years beautiful a lovely time was had She visited Clyde and Collen’s family in Salt Lake City after arriving back Sat night Aug Abbie Wright was baptized by her father John Wright In attendance were Grandpa Rodney Wright of Hinckley Amy Wright and girls Hinckley Grandma Lemira and Bishop Uncle Howard Dutson Sunday morning Abbie was confirmed a member of the church by her father At the home of John and Rochel Wright for Oak City Days were Rochel’s cousin Helen Oliver and CA daughter Diane from Pasadena They visited with their Aunt Lemira Dutson and other family members for several days Also visiting this week with the Wrights and Lemira Dutson Mrs Wendy ' Rex (Lynn) Allen and children Ann Marie Kaylene Jonathan Lynette Scott and went to Payson Aug 22 Christopher In a beautiful park there they met other members of Lynn’s family They are the children great grandchildren and of mother great great grandchildren Edna Hogan of Sandy and her husband the late Donald Hogan They are former Flowell residents Lynn and her twin brother Lee Hogan and youngest sister Charlene now Mrs Greg Waters attended school at Fillmore The twins graduated from Millard High School The Allens report having had a wonderful day at the reunion Mrs Lee (Diane) Hogan and Belinda children Angela Kimberly Joseph Maleah Cami and Danielle of ID spent several days here Salmon with her parents Ralph and Leah Robinson They also visited her brother Alden Robinson hsi wife Brenda and children Scott Susie and Sally Oh what fun the cousins have on the trampoline bike riding and all the other great things there are to do on the farm here at grandpas They visited the Rex Freda Allen family grandmothers and Pauline Robinson Christensen DESERET great time enjoying each other’s company Max Tomkinson of Colo spent the week of Aug visiting his brothers Roy and Gloria Tomkinson at Fillmore Don and Ilena here He was a house guest of the latter Of course he made many trips to the Fillmore Community Medical Center to spend all the time he could with his mother Nona Tomkinson who of course was excited and pleased to have Max come He left on the Lisa’s sister Rhea Ivie Baughman and they too were classmates all through school Also visiting Virgie and Lisa especially the latter was Ruthmary Brower a very good friend Surely enjoyed these ladies Western 3 1987 - FILLMORE Ph: On Saturday Aug 27 Angie Green drove to Delta where she joined her sister Millie Pace and her grandson Josh Pace They drove to Provo where they met Josh’s mother Tony and baby sister of Salt Lake City Josh had spent most of the summer at the home of his grandparents Shirt and Millie Pace and the last few weeks of his vacation with his father Jan Pace in Green River WY To give him a good welcome Tony had homecoming bought him a beautiful golden cocker spaniel puppy While we were in Spanish Fork we stayed at the home of our sister Hunsaker enjoying a rather cool day and a hot game of Scrabble On Sunday we drove to Pleasant Grove where we visited our sister Venice and her husband Ovid Jeppson Also joining us at their home were their son his wife Donna Jeppson and their daughter jamie of San Jose CA a grandson Ron Carlson of Yakima WA and a brother Layne Bottomfield and his two grandsons We found Ovid in better health than we expected A couple of months ago he was picking raspberries and fainted falling among the raspberry bushes impaling his face in a cluster of dry cropOne or more canes ped canes penetrated his left eye which destroyed his eyeball He has had a long hard fight with infection because of the many slivers imbedded in his eye socket However after a number of operations the slivers have finally been removed and his eye is healing The next day after we visited he had an appointment with an eye specialist in Salt Lake City to determine if he could be fitted with an artifical eye I haven’t heard how it turned out but when we left their home on Sunday Ovid and Venice were confident that there would be no problem am waiting for a letter to give me the good news Family members of Alta Shumway will be visiting her over the weekend Arriving on Friday Aug 28 will be her daughter Rachael her husband Eldon Marshall of St George and their daughter Tanya her husband Leland Gentry and their four daughters of Utah Enterprise On Sunday they will be driving on to Salt Lake City where they will attend the Eleventh Ward Church Reunion They were members of this ward for a number of years Alma Edwards has been visiting her Enid Alta and Waldo Warnick Damron Karolyn and Waldo Jr and Carl and attended the and wedding Hardy Beryl reception of Debbie Warnick and Matt Robinson in the Salt Lake Temple They were married by Rex C Reeve The reception was held in the Taylorsville Ward they attended when living there Courtney and Diane Finlinson and children Carl and Beryl Hardy Chris and Vin Cropper and children Shelby and Cindy Kevin Hardy of Salt Lake and Beulah Bassett attended the wedding of Robert Hardy son of Judd and Jacquie Hardy to Wendy Sieberts in Washington State to Russell Talbot Congratulations who has graduated from BYU with a degree in students counseling He will work in the Millard School District at the schools in Fillmore and Delta Leslie’s parents Beth and Curtis Waite from Las Vegas NV attended the graduation along with many members of the family from here The Hinckley First Ward Relief Society has been reorganized The new president is Amy Wright with Leslie Talbot and Melie’ Reeves as counselors and Pam Larsen as secretary to Glen and Diane Congratulations Blake on the arrival of their second son on Friday Over the 24th weekend the David Bagley family held their reunion at the home of their daughter Amy and Mel Wright Wes and LaWanna Peterson have returned from a trip to Midland MI to visit at the home of their son Russell and three and Shirley Peterson children After returning Wes left to take a weeks training in Albaney NY Hollie Price and three children are visiting at the home of her parents Bishop Walter and Bonnie On Thursday evening they held a big family reunion with a family dinner on their spacious lawn Cherie Morris and Helen Christensen took an Amtrak tour to Denver They visited Helen’s children that live there and took some historic tours Gordon Bishop is
