Show Millard Coaaty L'SPS Than Sept 3 1907 Page 7 4HF994HF4MHtH94MMMHHM Delta North Elementary In The News Delta North welcomes Hazel Maben aboard New faces at Delta High While students from DHS didn’t move to a different school it may seem as if a different school has moved into DHS With the new faces of the freshmen and s not to mention the eleven new teachers the school may seem to take on a whole new outlook Miss Jan Reeve the new chemistry teacher was welcomed to DHS by a swarm of “killer” ants During her 5th hour physics class one student noticed a line of black ants coming from under the wall and covering an entire desk Miss Reeve decided to use her “chemistry skills” and called a surprise lab She had the class write up their first lab report on how to terminate the ants Miss Reeve was born and raised in Hinckley and was taught by Mr Jacobsen retired chemistry teacher from DHS She feels teaching at DHS is “coming home” She said she has taught “forever” in such placed as Salt Lake Samoa and Hawaii “I am excited to be teaching at DHS and I plan to teach here ‘forever’” concludes Reeve “I have always wanted to teach high school home ec” said Juanita Utley the new home ec teacher for DHS Mrs Utley attended high school in Provo and graduated from BYU She and her family have lived in Delta for two years Her husband works at IPP and she has three children including a set of twins When she isn’t teaching home ec to her students she is enjoying it herself with her hobbies of sewing and cooking “I’ve always been partial to the ones that need special help To me they are special” said Mrs Linda Lemon the new special ed teacher at DHS Mrs Lemon went to school at both BYU and Utah State She has taught at the Utah State Training School Cache County and Delta North Elementary with the speech and hearing impaired Returning to teach at the high school where she graduated from is Carol Adams Spor the new geology teacher After living in Payson Sandy and Bishop CA she returned to teach at DHS This is Mrs Spor’s first year is excited and she to be teaching “very here” She attended BYU and got her major in home economics Mrs Spor enjoys sewing cooking and she makes beautiful stained glass pieces in her spare time She has six children two of which are attending DHS Although his face is familiar his teaching skills are not familiar to students at DHS Clint Peterson a new English teacher graduated from DHS and student taught at DHS for a quarter last year He graduated from SUSC with a major in Physical Education with minors in English and computer science Mr Peterson teaches and he said “I English grades want to build a good repoir with my students and instill in them that English and Literature are important for success” Mr Peterson is also an assistant football coach for DHS this year Another of the new faces at DHS is She atJane Ekins the bookkeeper tended two years of college at SUSC and has put in about 20 hours of com- - Delta High Hello Dance football After the game on Friday Sept 4 the Delta High Cheerleaders are planning the Annual Hello Dance in the school cafeteria at 9 pm There will be great music to dance to and the cost will only be $300 per person puter studies When asked she said the hardest part of her job here was “learning it” She added “After many about the mischevious warnings behavior of the students I was very nervous about my first day but I found the students to be very kind and understanding” Would Bro Pollock the new seminary teacher at DHS think movbe leaving ing to Delta would everything of city life? They have all been the home of Karen Chandler the new band teacher at Delta High She graduated from BYU with a major in Music and has taught at Orem Jr She plays a variety of High struments including the fiddle piano and the harmonica “To produce a winning volleyball team and help my students become successful” These are the goals of Leanne Acor DHS’s new girls athletic coach After attending and PE Teacher Rick’s College where she played both volleyball and basketball she graduated from BYU with a major in Physical Education and a minor in health and driver’s ed She will also teach health and Spanish and is coaching both volleyball and basketball Mrs Clay has recently taken a big step up from counselor’s assistant to secretary She says she enjoys her new position more because “she has a fond appreciation for money” She grew up in California and then moved to Utah There she attended BYU and majored “I’m looking in business education forward to the mastering of the schools computer system which isn’t as easy Mrs Clay concludes it as sounds” Mrs Hazel Maben is completing her student teaching during the firt five weeks of the school year with1 Mrs DeAnn Burton in the third grade at We are Delta North Elementary delighted to have Mrs Maben join our school staff and look forward to working with her Mrs Maben was born in Mesa Arizona She has five brothers and one sister She has lived in Chandler and Flagstaff Arizona as well as Abraham and Utah She attended Hartford Galveston Elementaries and graduated from Chandler High School She has attended Arizona State University and Southern Utah State College She is married to George Maben of Flagstaff Arizona The couple met at Arizona State University They have three children: Jenni age 13 Frank age 11 and Clint age 8 Mrs Maben has kept busy during at her lifetime She has worked Williams Air Force Base as a at Delta Valley Farms as an the assistant supervisor in cutting room and as a Media Aide at Delta In her spare time school when she was in sixth grade trying out for a lead in the school play Another girl was chosen for the part Three days the girl came prior to the production down with the mumps and Mrs Maben played the lead afterall!
