May Flowers” was most appropriate as tables and the entire room displayed a profusion of Fillmore’s beautiful blossoms Members were greeted by President Edna McBride who introduced High School Senior Shauna Huffaker as a special guest Shauna a First runner-uin the Sterling Scholar Awards has arranged for an international segment at each meeting of the Guild during the featurpast year These presentations ing local people who formerly lived in other countries has been most inforand also aidmative and entertaining ed in the report written by President McBride of club activities in the field of International Affairs that won a $5000 state award for the Fine Arts Guild Also receiving a state award is Helen Huntsman membership chairman for the past year whose membership drive was the most successful in the state a delicious luncheon Following prepared by the lunchroom staff Sunshine Generation a children’s perforthe program for ming group presented the afternoon Under the direction of Area Directors Shirley Jensen and Patsy Johnson these 62 youngsters charmed the audience with their sparkling presentation of music ranging from pop and western to folk and Broadway Clad in their bright yellow and orange outfits the children proved they are becoming seasoned “troopers” as they perform before groups in our area each month or six weeks Obviously happy enthusiastic and having lots of fun Guild members likewise enjoyed their program and congratulate them on developing their musical and performing talents Parliamentarian Ardell Wright conducted the installation of the their absence during the winter months It was hard for Norma to come home with her Forrest (Forrey) being gone but she is thankful for all of her close neighbors She isn’t the only one who misses Forey He was so good and helpful to his neighbors especially to the widow ladies in his neighborhood Their son Henry and wife Colleen from Salt Lake City brought Norma back home Maria’s son Mario wife Karen their two sons Aaron and Matthew Suzanne from and adopted daughter Brigham City moved her down from Provo where she had spent the winter with her sister Nina DeBlois Two more sons of Karen and Mario Quin and Nathan who are attending college at Snow in Ephraim joined the family in Kanosh and the group really pitched in helping Maria with her necessary yard and garden work of preparing garden spot cultivating trimming trees cleaning etc They all returned home on Easter weekend The Easter sandhills outing and party for the Lamanite Branch on Friday April 17 didn’t turn out as planned When the terrible wind blew them out of the hills they all returned to Johnny Cooper’s where the large group of adults and kids enjoyed playing basketball jumping on the trampoline riding three of Johnny’s nice horses and roasting weiners and marshmallows on the grill to go along with the rest of their picnic Everyone had a good time Kids kids you wonder where they all came from at 8 am on Sat April 18 as they gathered at the three designated spots to begin the big Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Kanosh Ward Primary It was fun for everyone especially for Heidi Paxton (daughter of Frank and Sherry Paxton) who found the prize or Golden egg and received a $200 bill Sat April 18 at 2 pm was a special day for Arthur Wesley Fleming and his son Trampis Kay Fleming who were both baptized at the Kanosh Ward Church It’s unusual for a father and son to join the church at the same time The baptismal meeting was conducted by President Scott Speakman Trampis and Arthur were each baptized and confirmed by cultures of Hawaii Samoa Tahiti and New Zealand and the costumes were Gwen Evans was the stage great mother and parents volunteered to the group to and from transport performances We appreciate Kirk putting on this program here as there were several participants from Kanosh and many others who had relatives here At the end of this 40 minute program they received a standing ovation Thank you We Newsletter Horsefeathers concern the library patrons of this area First there was a very complimentary paragraph reporting the dedication of our new facilities which many of you attended It was written by Russell Davis State Library Director We certainly appreciate his help in our tremendous undertaking The second item was a list of libraries for approved for the State We applied for and construction received a (project under new build a to ramp handicap $2000) at the south of the library When the paperwork is all completed and the Final letter arrives we will be able to The present imaginative small books written by the Middle School students in Mr Kirby Giles’ classes The forty which were used in the Story Festival are there as well as others for which there ws not room at the Festival They may not be checked out but may be removed from the display rack long enough to read them Spend a little time with them We know you will thoroughly enjoy the stories and the illustrations Special Book Marks We now have our very own book no other in existence These were ordered for the Story Festival but due to press problems were not ready on time They are colorful and fun as well as informative We have ordered enough for one to a customer and hope they will be kept as souvenirs always between the pages of a good transferred to the next good book There are enough for the teens and adults also Come in and get yours soon Last Day For Free Return This is the last day for free return of overdue books The overdue fines begin on May as stated last week The fine will be counted for the day after the book was due This new policy was announced to the students of the Elementary School at the Story Festival and in the Progress in signs in the and over the PA systems in the library schools The First part of the policy announced the loan period to be extended to month (from 2 weeks) except for those books marked as “one week loan” which will still be the same The second part of the policy gave April as a free return period with Fines beginning in May We are happy to announce a lot of overdues have been returned-soof them years over It is a pleasure to have these books back
