Show ¥ 1 USPS Millard County Tbun Apr 30 1987 - Page 5 Laurel Johnson President Jill Clay Murray Clay Sherilyn Johnson Mark Peterson Susan Peterson Myrlene Turner Chairman Utah Youth Leadership Seminar The Fine Arts Club of Delta annually sponsors a Delta High Sophomore to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar in Salt Lake City This year’s lucky scholarship recipient is Sherilyn Johnson 16 daughter of Mr and Mrs Elwin Johnson Miss Johnson has demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership in her scholastic and community efforts according to the Delta High School faculty committee which made the selection Myrlene Turner is chairman of the Youth Leadership committee for the Fine Arts Club of Delta She was in charge of a recent club program featur ing recent recipients of this annual award Murray Clay son of Mr and Mrs Neil Clay reported on his attendance at the Utah Youth Leadership Meet in Salt Lake City last year He was very enthusiastic about his opportunity to learn about free enterprise and the economic system in our democracy Mark Peterson son of Mr and Mrs Ron Peterson a former winner and delegate to the Utah Youth Leadership the club entertained Conference members and guests with several vocal numbers Laurel Johnson club president congratulated Sherilyn and the other past winners on their accomplishments Andrea Dutson and Valarie Ekins Local girls take first On April 11 1987 Andrea Dutson daughter of George E and Sandra Dutson and Valarie Ekins daughter of David and Linda Ekins participated in the State Showdown Dance and Drill held at Murray High Competition School in Salt Lake City After the competition was completed everyone there realized that Delta had come of age in the dancing world Out of the more than 60 girls participating Andrea and Valarie came away with the top honors Valarie danced in the amateur division and won first place in her age group years old) and placed first all around in the amateur division Andrea competed in the division and won first in her age group years old) and placed fourth all around for the division Earlier this spring Andrea competed in the Intermountain Invitational in American Fork At this competition she won first place in her age group third place in drill down and was chosen as Queen of the entire com- -
