Thank you note We owe so much to so many people impossible to mention names but our thanks and gratitude go out to all who helped in any way To the officers who came to out home the ambulance crew that responded so quickly Dr Day pd the nurses at the hospital that kept such a close watch and worked so hard to friends and neighbors that came to the hospital to those that brought food those that visited send cards and made telephone calls and for all the prayers that were offered in our behalf we thank you all Wells and Ramona Kenney la Jensen Wanda Webb Georgia Rasmussen it is Glcida NEWS Hunter - - — -- a 100 Years Old Sherlock Holmes along with Sears and The Statue of Liberty are among those who are 100 years old this year Arthur Conan Doyle created the famous detective in March and April of 1886 with his first adventure ‘A Study in Scarlet" Although if was not published for 18 months his in his own notebooks handwriting show the date of “birth" Doyle created 60 stories and four stories about the ingenious character The first name given to the detective was Sherrinford Holmes and his was named Ormond Sackcr stead of Dr Watson Many of his stories have been made into plays and movies which we have been enjoying for years The library has two sets of "Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes" and three volumes of selections If you’d like to get away with a good detective story come in and take one home with you We have purchased an oversized ptofusely illustrated new book on the Statue of Liberty and the activities of Ellis Island Of course this doesn’t go into detail about the lives of the immigrant as some of the more recent novels and movies have ("Evergreen" etc) but has historical photos of how it actually was guess the next step is to buy the "Sears" first catalog! No Grant This grant we have been talking about didn’t come to the library Although is was well prepared and on lime and a worthy cause it was awarded elsewhere the funds Apparently were cut again and since Fillmore had a Block Grant for their new Picnic Shelter in the North Park finished last year through the organization we lost points theie This means of course that we must raise many more thousands of dollars to equip the new facility The Library Board is engaged in a new fund raising drive contacting oundations throughout Utah to try to help out with the project Thirty ters were sent to foundations known to award grants to libraries andor educational organizations who hve status We are still accepting donations at the library We would like the patrons who have donated in the past to come in or call us with the record of your donations We want to our list to make sure it is correct in See you the library Fine Arts Guild The East Millard Fine Aris Guild will meet today Thursday
