game Penalties kill Rabbit gridders The Richfield Wildcats have to feel pretty lucky right now after edging out Delta by only one point last Friday After all the Rabbits came out on top everywhere except the scoreboard Tor both teams it was the season opener Just a week before Richfield lost a game to Cedar as did Delta to Payson Richfield was the top ranked team in the region just coming back from winning the 2A The state championship Delta fans were looking for the Rabbits to win and ranked hopefully become the No team The first score came in the first quarter from the Wildcat’s quarterback Mark Hyatt on a run Jared Smith’s punt hit one of his own players so Richfield had less than 15 yards to go for that touchdown The Rabbits then tied up the score after making their way down the at field and scoring on a Dae Porter run also in the first quarter Delta Later in the third quarter made another impressive drive and Gary Porter scored this time from two yards out Shahin Safarian kicked Delta’s two extra points Richfield then intercepted a pass deep in Delta’s territory and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown Richfield got the two point conversion on a Mark Hyatt pass putting the Cats up by one The score remained for Richfield the rest of the game The Rabbits had a good game but their holding penalties ruined their chances of winning Delta was penalized 120 yards which was more than less than 100 Richfield’s total yards Both of Richfield’s TDs came from turnovers that were no farther than 20 yards away from Delta’s end zone On the other hand Delta had a good game offensively rushing 31 times for 90 yards and completing 16 out of 30 passes for 156 yards totalling 246 offensive yards we're going to put “For now Richfield behind us” said Bruce Nielson “These first few games help you know where you’re at but whoever conies out on top in the end is what really counts” Delta will play Emery this Friday at Emery “If we have the same intensity and stay away from the mental mistakes we should be able to win” said Shahin Safarian Delta High Boosters The fall sports of football and volleyball are in full swing The Delta High Boosters Club wants
