EDITOR ff You’re great Delta Mama’s Rocking Chair Mama had a special rocking chair She and Papa bought it while they were in Salt ake to be married in 1904 It was solid oak had curved arms and flowers carved into the headrest and a carved seat made to be comfortable Mama kept the back covered with a soft pad made of some pretty cloth and covered that with a crocheted lace cover and always with a soft fluffy cushion Everyone liked to sit in the rocking chair it was a kind of privilege If you were sick it was pulled up bv the stove with a quilt and pillows and vou could rock and rest and sleep and be better the next day The rocking chair was the cradle for the new babv with cushions and Sometimes pillows and blankets Mama sat in the cliuii and held the baby and sang “Rock a bve babv in the nee top when the wind blows the cradle will rock when the bough bends the babv will fall down will come babv cradle and all ” These seem like violent words when analvze them no" but nobody ever analvzed anything then and it was good to hear Mama sing to the baby and watch the baby laugh and play When Mama was busy she would put the baby in the rocking chair and pull to where she was ironing or by the sewing machine so she could put her loot out and give the chair a rock if the babv started to fuss We all enjoyed and used that good chair until the familv was grown and It made the old we got new furniture rocker look old fashioned Somehow one of the rockers was broken so the solid oak carved arm rest well used old rocking chair was put out in an old house to go through the “no value” stage that old things have to go through before their value is realized Some one came along who must have really needed that rocking chair Now all we have is the memorv of the happy days in our comfort of a quilt to wrap up in in front ol the warm stove when you had the “grippe” and rock in the old rocker bv Mary llenrie was traveling On June 28 1985 through Utah with my son and my fiance’s son making a quick trip to San Francisco with the intention of meeting naturally my fiance at the airport traveling with a very tight schedule which made it necessary to drive at I hit an antelope night At 145 a m about 40 miles west of Delta The car was really smashed in and looked like a total loss the antelope was in pieces on the road and across the remaining front end W hat appeared to be a total disaster for my family and for me turned in to one of the most beautiful opportunities of our lives in which we could appreciate the quality of strangers who were more than cooperative and helpful Beginning with “Stoney” who helped locate a policeman to drive us back out to the accident and Jeff the policeman who waited for the wrecker and then took us to a motel where Bruce and his wife charged us for only one day because we were down to the last few dollars and facing an unknown dilemma with the loss of the car At that time (6 a m) looked at my surance policy and found that since never intended to have an accident had not taken collision insurance That’s how found out what very special people you have in Delta Ken- Community 12 Sept NOIfllN'Sft- itizens Party Mass Meeting 8pm Meadow Town Hall Peoples Party Mass Meeting 8pm Meadow Town Hall “Greatest Snow on art h ” meeting 8 p m ibtarv Reading illmoreCity Room Commodies distributions p m age 59 and under at the Pod Bldg in illmore age 60 and over at the Senior itizens Bldg in rillmore Tlu shots Delta Sr itizens Center 9 a m - 3 p m Sept 13 Rose Marie I ovell and Johnny Idudge Travis wedding reception JO 12 p m Oak City Cultural Hall lu shots Iynndyl Town Hall II a m p m Sept 14 Hall ll‘30am Town iimington C m- 'THREE "ASTEROIDS” IdHftf DID VOU 6UV FOR LUNCH? and a "space INVADERS’’ pm Oak City Town Hall 2:30 5 pm lodd R Day and Cheryl Johnson Goshen Ward wedding reception Church pm Minersvillc Reservoir fishing opener DHS Class ol 1935 Class Reunion M E Bird Senior Citizen Center Begins 4 p m Sept 14 & 17 “W inning the Testimony W ar” live musical concert 7pm Delta High School Sept 14 Millard Riwams Party Oak Cilv ( anyon Todd R Day and Cheryl Johnson Nephi I DS openhouse wedding Church 222 South 100 Iasi Calendar Sept 15 Steven Starley mission farewell Fillmore Stake Center p m 2 45 Sept 16 Tennis league begins Delta Parks and Rec Hay Testing 10 a m 2 p m Dave’s Sales and Servies Fillmore by County Agent Sept 17 Blood Pressure and Flu Shots 10 noon Kanosh Town Hall a Blood Pressure and Tlu Shots p m Meadow LDS Church Hay testing 10 a m 2 p m Farmers Delta by County Agent Sept 17 19 24 & 26 CPR Course p m Public Safety Bldg Fillmore Sept 18 Delta film Adverture Outdoor Parks and Rec 7:30 p m Regional Park Sept 19 8'30-distribution Commodies a m M L Bid Center Delta 59 and younger Millard County Jr I ivestock Show Board nominations meeting 8 30 p m Stock Show barn Public invited 21 nard Riding and his son Steve worked all day trying to get a totalled car back into shape and running They did it!
