normal American For the 60 Percent of us whose eating habits more closely resemble grazing than three square meals a day snacking is a major part of our diet People usually associate snack food with junk food but this may be incorrect says Dr Georgia Lauritzen Utah State University Extension nutrition specialist “Although it is generally assumed that snacks contribute only empty calories to the diet research indicates that snacks actually contribute the to American diet” favorably Lauritzen says She says the Nationwide Food Consumption Survey (NFCS) reveals that snackers obtain 12 percent of their daily protein 21 percent of calcium and about 17 percent of their vitamin C from snacks Eating snacks appeared to cut down on the quantity of foods eaten at regular meals but the nutritional value of a day of eating snacks plus meals was not less than that of eating only three meals Lauritzen says other studies on snacking indicate that there is no relationship between obesity and snacking On the contrary a recent frequency study indicates that slim children eat more snacks than their heavier counterparts The written language with the smallest surviving All is Kamassian
