were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1943 After Dell completed his service in the Navy during World 'Aar IL they chose to make their home in Delta They feel blessed to have lived worked and raised their family m such a wonderful community They have five children: Delene and Jerry Huff Las Vegas NV: Joan and Chad Anderson Castle Rock CO: Sonya and David Taylor Delta UT Richard and Thalia Ashby BountiftiL UT Roger and Rim Ashby Delta UT and 20 grandchildren and 22 Successful Year for West Millard Music Teachers This past year has been another successful one for the West Millard The Music Teachers Association highlight of our season was the Music Festival held on March 15 2008 sponsored by the Federated Music Clubs of America The evening was begun with lovely musical numbers by four of the advanced students: Jami Finlinson violin Bessie Skeem vocal Cory and Brooke Finlinson piano There were 101 students participating: nine (9) vocalists seven (7) including violinists and 85 pianists instructed by ten of our member teachers Each was evaluated on his or her performance of the most outstanding numbers were played at an Honors Recital held the next day March 16 2008 at 5 00 p m in the M E Bird Center The yearly Awards Night was held in the Bird Center on May 3 2008 where students were given recognition for their accomplishments during the and 30 year Crandall and Guinevere Nielson 40th Anniversaiy the Music Crandall and Guinevere Nielson will celebrate their 40th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday June 7 2lX)8 An open house will be held in their honor at 5 to 7 p m at the Oak City Church 35 East Center Oak City Utah Everyone is cordially invited to attend No gifts please Golden Wedding Anniversaiy The children of Austin & Meredith Lovell are happy to announce the Golden Wedding Anniversary of their parents Austin N Lovell and Meredith Anderson were married June 4 1958 in the Manti temple They are both proud of their Oak City heritage as are their children Austin continuing the family tradition of farming has a farm in McCornick and was the manager of the Delta UT Stake Welfare Farm from 1981 to 2001 Their love of music led to his and Meredith's involvement in several dance bands that have served the Oak City and surrounding communities for over 50 years Austin has served as a bishop in Oak City and together he and Meredith served Mission in the Brisbane Australia Meredith has spent her life as a homemaker and has taught her children (and many others) her love of the arts of knitting crocheting She has a love for genealogy and gardening canning and quilting family history work and many people have benefited from her labors Together they have seven children: Lori (Don) Magby Sacramento CA Gam (Naloni) Lovell Aberdeen ID Cindy several years Joyce Moody is in charge of the Music Mastery and Cindy Finlinson handles the Creative Musicianship Our meetings are planned to help all of us so we can help our upgrade our teaching students become better musicians By working together sharing and learning from each other teaching music has been more enjoyable and we've seen of improvement in the accomplishments our students We Thirteen Gold Cups for earning Superior ratings for three years eight students were Gold Cups for six years given of Superior and one student (Brooke Gold Finlinson) earned a Cup for nine years of Superior ratings Awards were also given for progress in students received Theory certificates for completion of various levels from one to twelve Seventeen of these had finished Level Four at which milestone they were given a bronze medal Another area of achievement was Creative Musicianship for which 8 students brought a project connected with music for display These projects were delightfully varied and original for which each received a Elder Maben John Larsen Elder Maben John Larsen has returned home after serving an honorable mission for the Church of Saints in Jesus Christ of the Idaho Scholarship Winners 4-- H by Jvlene Johnson USU Millard County Extension Agent In recognition of their dedicated others Katie Camp also received a service leadership and commitment to Millard County Katie Camp State Ambassador Scholarship Her Mark Scott and Jacob Thompson were hard work and commitment to the the 2008 Millard County awarded program as a State Ambassador have entitled her to this 4 year Scholarships involvement Katie Camp's scholarship In addition Katie Camp is one of 5 Utah youth who received includes being a Utah State Ambassador the Daniels Scholarship which was South West Region founded by Bill Daniels a man Ambassador Millard County JVC dedicated to making life better for coordinator State JYC Teen Leader Teen Council and president of others one person at a time Daniels In addition Katie was a winner of the believed that everyone comes into National Congress Interviews State this world with an innate and unique Fashion Consumer Strategies runner potential for success and fulfillment Jacob Thompson along with three up received the Millard County other Utah students was honored Outstanding Leadership award and won rosette nbbons at the Utah State as a Distinguished Finalist for the Fair Katie has also been a judge's Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for his impressive community assistant at the Millard County Fair service activities “The Prudential helped with the Lion’s Club Spook Alley and made several blankets and Spirit of Community Awards is a nationwide program honoring quilts which were donated to the New Horizon Crisis Center young people for outstanding acts of Mark Scott has been a member of volunteensm” Based on the number the Delta Teen Council for 4 years of volunteer hours that he put in and helped organize and run service Jacob Thompson also qualified for the President's Volunteer Service Award projects and club activ ities Mark has also been an YFP mentor President “The President's Volunteer Service of the Award recognizes Americans of all Shooting Sports Club received the sweepstakes at the Utah ages who have volunteered significant State Fair for his football rag quilt and amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country" helped plan organize and participated in quarterly activities with Special Needs residents in Millard County Jacob Thompson has been Vice President of the
