declined the nomination stating that she learned at a recent conference that it's best to put the most experienced board members in leadership positions he board unanimously Noted Clayton in as president who replaces Brent Olson who served as president from lss7 to 1SM9 Gardner was elected School Board Vice President Clayton then commended Olson ears as School ing he prov ided two great Board President C'la ton said Olson successfully got the board to visit all the schools in the school district and kept up on technology le said he also liked the board members retreat Olson organized The incoming board president also commended Superintendent Dr Kenneth opham for his 26 ears of serv ice to the Millard County School District and he praised School District Business Administrator Keith Griffiths for his happy commodating attitude when he performs his job During board members' communications Olson said he doesn't want to see door lo door sales by students The board passed a said a decision will be made Jan 21 Delta Middle School teacher Esther Duncan said she has taught in a block format and doesn't like it especially when a student is absent She said in a block format teachers haNe trouble coNering all the material in the time allotted for each subject Topham said when the new format is to be implemented teachers will trained so they can properly teach in the format Topham said his research has shown that students in block formats are keeping up their grades better than in traditional school formats He also said attendance is better and that schools that already have block formats report that student discipline is better Topham said the school district may eventually have to hire another teacher to accommodate the new format L'nder the format teachers would only teach three subjects per day Millard High School Principal Dennis Alldredge said he has learned that to keep up with block format classes teachers will need 90 minutes per day of prep time
