Show Serving Utah’s Great Pahvant Valley USPS Stepfather accused of rape Hearing Held on Aggravated preliminary hearing was held in Fourth Circuit Court in Fillmore on Nathan August 26 for Jeremiah Cameron of Flowell Cameron known by many as Jerry Cameron has been charged with aggravated assault a 3rd degree felony in connection with a shinning that occurred June 24 outside Cameron’s parent’s home Jason Davies a longtime friend testified that he and Cameron and several other friends had been together much of June 23 The group had traveled about Cameron had shown the others a pistol and at one point aimed the pistol at Davies Davies said that he asked Cameron not to point the pistol at him He said the pistol came down As the daynight progressed the group had used alcohol various including drugs and marijuana methamphelamine Davis said he saw Cameron use both methamphelamine and marijuana Davies testified that Cameron was “pretty high" Early the morning of June 24 the group was returning toCameron's home Davies testified that his in a friend Cameron entered the house A short time passed and Davies told of how he heard a noise near the front door of the house He said it sounded like a “Psst" which he look as a call to tome there As he approached the front dixir he saw a flash then realized that he had A By Terre Smith In a preliminary hearing held in Fillmore August 26 a Panguitch woman gave testimony accusing her stepfather of raping her numerous limes during her 3th and 14th years Mark Allen Crandall appeared in custody on charges that he committed three counts of rape of a child attempted sodomy of a child and rape Each charge is a si degree felony These charges stemmed from complaints made by Crandall's stepdaughter Darcy Stevens 18 now living in Panguitch Stevens alleges that Crandall raped heron several occasions in during which she was 3 and 14 years old Testimony by the now adult woman described four occasions when she claims that Crandall forced himself upon her and had intercourse She testified that on each occasion she tried to push him away and verbally kept trying to get him to slop At the lime of each occurrence Stevens mother Denise was reported to be at work The complainant explained to the court that she was afraid to tell her mother or others about the incidents because of various threats by Crandall At one point Stevens’ aunts expressed fear of sexual abuse to the Millard County Sheriffs Office but interviews by the officers with Stevens at school produced denial by the young student She did eventually confide in one aunt about the incidents The alleged incidents were said to have occurred in Pahvant at the farm where Stevens her mother and Crandall were living Crandall was then employed by the property owner Lamar Anderson According to Stevens at no lime as far as she knew were there witnesses to her attacks nor her verbal refusals Also called to testify was a current inmate of the county jail Robert W Stewart Jr who was jailed with Crandall during the last two weeks in July Stewart offered testimony that he overheard Crandall talking to a nephew whom he told that the charges were unfounded then later in the same conversation Stewart recalls hearing “Well maybe I did but that was five years ago she’ll have to prove it" Stewart sent a letter to Sergeant John Kimball about possibly “doing drug buys" for the authorities in hopes of an early release According to Kimball he spoke with Stewart in hopes of receiving information he could use but was not interested in the offer At the meeting the information concerning the phone call between Crandall and his nephew was offered Sgt Kimball also tried to recall the meeting he and Sheriff Ed Phillips had with the Stevens girl about five years ago Kimball testified that he still had personal notes as well as the official reports in his files Crandall who did not speak except in private exchanges between he and his counsel David O Leavitt appeared anxious as testimony was heard He was seen often turning to Denise and winking At one point he attempted to make verbal contact at which time Sgt Ross Johnson bailiff reminded him he was not to have any contact except with his attorney Judge Anthony W Schofield ruled that probable cause had been established and that he gave “only limited weight to testimony of Robert Stewart” Picas of not guilty were entered by the defense Trial was assigned to Judge Ray Harding's calendar Crandall currently remains in the custody of the county jail 2 car accident Large “cat” caught at DMAD fishing trip for a local woman became a 30 minute struggle August 29 but netted the woman a reported 1014 pound channel catfish Gayle Bennett of Hinckley was fishing at DMAD w ith a 4 lb test line and using carp bait when the tug she felt on her line was very strong According to Bennett she usually goes fishing with others but was alone this particular day She explained that she struggled for about 30 minutes before bringing in the large ficsty fish She proceeded into Delta where her catch was weighed at the Della Sports Center The catfish was scheduled to be the main course at dinner A Gayle Bennett pm in Oasis cast The Skeem’s vehicle came to rest on the left shoulder of Oasis Road facing south Quick response by the Sheriff’s office the Delta Fire Department and Delta Ambulance personnel brought aid to members of both automobiles Injured in the accident were: Shannon Lewis of Oasis and Norma Skecm also of Oasis Both women w ere transported to Delta Community Center where Ms Lewis was treated for minor injuries Mrs Skeem was treated for and remains hospitalized for a collarbone fracture and fractures to her pelvic gion Mr Skecm was not injured in the accident According to family members neither of the Skeem’s were w earing a seat belt Shannon Lewis was reported to have been wearing a scat belt According to Deputy Brett Nielson the responding officer Ms Lew is would have sustained severe injuries had she not been wearing her bell He also felt that some of Mrs Skeem’s injuries might have been less severe had she wom her scat belt 50th Annual Leamarado Schedule in his left shoulder Davies then ran to the front of the truck Deputy Randy Christiansen was dispatched to the scene about 5:15 a m He testified that he was unsure of the situation so he told the ambulance to hold back until he had secured the area Davies and Cameron were questioned both at the scene and at Fillmore Community Medical Center where Davies had been taken for treatment Cameron had told the deputy that he had been using drugs and agreed to be tested for drugs Davies was questioned about the shooting and was not sure what had happened He tix agreed to drug lest ing Deputy Christiansen testified that Cameron appeared “very hyper" and appeared more worried about the location of the pistol holster than the other matters at hand The pistol was found lying on a chair located in the living room of the house The holster was found on the kitchen table by a younger brother of Cameron Following the testimony of Davies and Christiansen remarks were heard by Dexter L Anderson county attorney and defense counsel David O Leavitt In rendering a decision to bind Cameron over on all six charges (see court report) Judge Anthony Schofield and set established found that traveling south at the moment of impact By Terre Smith An early morning short trip was tered August 24 when two autos collided just south of the Oasis city limit sign Norma Skccm and her husband Arlo were preparing for a trip to Salt Lake City by driving their late model Lumina to their daughter Judy’s home Judy Peterson was scheduled to drive her but the parents to their appointments Skeem’s desired her to drive their vehicle so Mrs Skecm was driving the car the short distance w hich required crossing the main road At about the same time Shannon Lewis was driving south on Oasis Road towards her home According to Mrs her mother stopped and Peterson checked traffic left then right at the yield sign before entering the intersection Mrs Skecm suddenly realized the gray Chevrolet travel ing south on Oasis Both vehicles tried to avoid the accident but the auto driven by Shannon Lewis struck the driver’s door of the vehicle Lewis’s vehicle Skeem's swerved to the left and came to a stop on the right side of the county road facing 84 No Honored Guests Assault Charge By Terre Smith Vol Leamarado Days by Floyd Bradfirld James Alvin Jensen along with his wife Marie will be honored guests at our fiftieth Labor Day Celebration James was bom in Leamington August 2 1918 a son of Samuel P Jensen and Dortha Hansen Jensen His grandparents Jens Jensen and Matilda Johnston Jensen came from Denmark and Ireland respectively and were among the early settlers in Leamington James married Marie Mcrrell May 17 1941 and they have two children thirteen grandchildren and five great While growing up grandchildren James became interested in fossils rowheads etc and scoured the hills around Leamington to see w hat he could find Later on because of his many findings he became known as "Dinosaur Jim" In 1972 he discovered the worlds largest dinosaur and in 1979 a still larger one He was Earth Science Museum Director at BYU for 23 years and worked in the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University for seven years James has received many scientific and academic honors and awards He has been on many educational TV programs and has lectured in various cities in the United States and foreign countries Marie has served in many responsible positions in several different places She has worked in the offices at BYU Harvard University and private businesses Both James and Marie have been active members of the LDS Church Besides all their achievements they arc willing to help out in civic affairs On one of their visits to the Lcamingioo cemetery where James' parents grandparents and a sister and brother arc buried they decided that the area should be mapjied out They lured Wes Peterson to survey the ground and James and Marie mapped out the area so that each grave could be identified James alsoobtained deeds from J Jones and Fred and Francelle Nielson so that additional space is now available He gave two large maps to the Town Board but both were lost or misplaced In 1986 James and Marie came back to Leamington and remapped the cemetery which was a lime consuming job The people of Leamington greatly appreciate their efforts and the lime and money they reported missing by his wife Carol August 17 when he failed to return home from running an errand and a short stop to complete a task at Ins place of work hi tc male Snider a 5 ft 8 m weighs about 215 lbs and has blue eyes and blond thinning hair He is reported to suffer fnm a heart condition according to his wife Carol He was seen leaving for work and a stop to make a car payment He was driving a 1978 CMC brow n on tan van The an has been customized by Mr Snider by the addition of a “T az" on the left rear side panel The vehicle has Utah plates 925 GYS According to Mrs Snider her husband left their home at 75 S 350 East in Delta about :30amtodosomcminor work at Top's City Cafe where he worked as a cook Before he left he told her he was going to make their car payment Mrs Snider explained that her husband then received the sum of S265 from her purse for the payment as well as gasoline for the van he was driving When her husband hadn't returned by about 330 p m Mrs Snider contacted the Millard County Sheriff s Office for assistance She said she was concerned because her husband had suffered a severe heart attack last December 23 Although Snider is an adult and was not considered missing at that lime Mrs Snider says the deputies began looking for him at once and have kept in touch w uh her on their progress One report claims to have seen the van about 8 pm heading w cst No other reports of sightings have been made Although married only about six months the Sniders came to Della to Jim wrrk with Snider’s Jackson who manages the Budget Motel in Della Mrs Snider told of how she and her husband left earlier in the a grandson who is month to currently staying with her Mrs Snider claims that she and her husband were not involved in an argument at the lime she last saw him but concedes that he may have abandoned her to head to possibly Reno or (Las) Vegas "He talked about busing pro:rt here and seemed to like our life here" she recollects “but he did talk of working somewhere where he could do second or third shift work the hours lie liked best" If he has chosen to leave all Mrs Snider wants is to know that he is okay and has made his choices "It's not ant to
